Which truck would I choose?
The one that makes me the most money and saves me the most money,
I have owned mostly W900's and Freightliner Classics, but now have a couple Cascadia's in the fleet and they are the most fuel efficient trucks I have ever owned.
Having a cool truck is nice, I owned a couple, but not if it isn't making you money -
Thanks to all who posted positive responses. I was only asking about which trucks were more reliable than others. Didn't mean to start a big argument. I have worked around military aircraft most my life and don't know a lot about semi-trucks as to which ones are more reliable than others. I just want something that is reliable and has fewer breakdowns than other trucks, something that will keep me on the road and minimize my downtime. I understand all trucks are going to have there share of problems.

I think the OP's question was valid. Why go to work for a company that has shatner equipment? The more time ya spend in the shop, the less money ya make!!
I have driven quite a few Freightliner Columbias, and have grown quite fond of them. I am a newbie, so have not driven any volvos, KW, or Petes yet.idfive Thanks this. -
Thanks for the comments bcso809 . Does the bcso stand for a Sheriffs Office somewhere? Nevermind, just read your profile. I did 2 yrs with the Sheriffs Office, before I knew it wasn't for me.

Well you can't pick the one that is going to pay the best, because starting out you won't make much at any of them. Most likely a student isn't going to get a new truck right off the bat either. They will give you something more expendable as your first truck. If I change companies and a new one isn't available, I'll pick the oldest truck on the lot. That way I know it won't be long before it's traded in.
I like practicality over looking pretty. Does it have plenty of storage? Does it have a good turning radius? Is the inside liveable if I stay out 6 weeks?
I'm tired of the same old models that been on the roads for years. I'd probably go for a Cascadia because they are a newer design. They have plenty of storage, and they are comfortable. It's not going to win any awards, but overall they would get a good score from me.
Chosing a company is done by reputation, running lanes, and overall what they have to offer. A nice truck is just a bonus. The only thing I ask for in a truck is I don't want one that is wrecked. I never wrecked one and I don't want it looking like I have. Some of my favorite trucks have been older ones. -
i didnt read this whole thread but avoid volvo. I have a fairly nice one but the support for them is horrible. no one has parts for them, including volvo dealers. when i had my pete i never had to have parts ordered, peterbilt always stocked anything i needed. volvo has to order everything and i gotta wait. no one wants to work on them either.

A truck is not a truck! as over the road driver it's my home away from home. I like trucks that ride nice, have a good field of view and not a long " nose " sticking out. I have owned a 2006 volvo for the last year and to me it's the best ridding truck. and unless a job is paying very good you wont find me in a freightshaker.
