He probably doesn't know.... -
The whole point of this thread is for truckers to share they're great experiences with companies. To help each other out. If that's what this guy's trying to do by posting this thread then great, but don't get on someone for doubting his honesty. The last thing ANY of us want on here is more recruiters blowing smoke up our rear ends!!
If it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, he's probably a recruiter, or a trucker getting miles for putting out false reviews. Seems to me like there's a lot of guys out there under the company's payroll for more than just hauling freight.
I'm not saying its impossible to get those miles. It's the manner in which he's going about bragging that waves a red flag at me. He's not interested in helping anyone else out, he's just flying Swift's banner. Really dude? You smell like a duck too. . . FOWL. Just saying.....(directed at original poster, not the person I was quoting...by the way)Last edited: Feb 4, 2011

That's only 2675 or so a week average. Not bad but not great . I used to drive a company truck for swift . I remember sitting in Memphis on Friday afternoon ready to go home and no one would allow me to have an empty trailer to do so. All I would hear is pull a load and when u get empty you can go home then. Trouble with that is I was on a dedicated route and had to get an empty loaded over the weekend or I would not have a load going out Sunday night.
Swift is one of the better companies for training but once you get some experience get out and go to work for a real company that actually allows you to work and make money.
As far as running 140,000 a year. Try posting how much time you were home and how much of that time was spent in a truckstop. Also what was your bottom line on your W2?. I would guess it was somewhere around 35,000. Why work all year sitting in truckstops on the weekend and drive a 64 mph truck for that? -
I work for Pritchett Trucking in Lake Butler, Fl, like I said I wasn't making a derogatory statement, only comparing my local miles to his. I'm not a mileage based driver either, I get paid by the load, nor was I trying to start a pissing match, just making an observation.

Really....??
....A Freightliner?

Jlind was asking the local driver what company HE was driving for, not about the company of the OP, which is Swift of course.

BINGO. That's the key. How much money did you bring home after expenses. 139k miles is fine if you also made enough $$ to pay all your bills and put some money back for retirement, etc.
BTW, as an O/O or L/O, you probably are qualified to set up a very powerful little retirement plan called a SEP IRA. It's something that you should definately look into. You can put way more money into that than you can a regular IRA and 401K combined. For 2011 the maximum contribution is $49,000.
I'd assume you went the O/O route because your goal is to make more money than you'd otherwise make as a company driver. The key is not MAKING more money, but KEEPING more money at the end of the month/year. That SEP IRA is your best friend if you take advantage of it.
GLHanadarko Thanks this. -
its not the miles that count its the money. Or rather the money thats left when your done
-
its neither the miles or the money--its a combination of money and quality of life
although i love driviing--i really dont want to be on the road 52 weeks a year
