Really, there is no difference what engine is under the hood ov Volvo. All engineas are J1939 controlled by VECU. I did engine swaps easily.
DD is supplied with ECM and wiring, I did J1939, J1708, battery power and ign. connections. And that is all. All other things like engine brake, PTO, cruise controll are connected to VECU and VECU do all engine controll by J1939 CAN

I have wiring diagrams only. Well, one interesting feature. On some volvos instrumental cluster converts MID 128 codes and they look like on Volvo engine, if you will use Detroit Diesel code list it may differ. So use PDF file, link I post before. When Volvo introdused Version-II they did not cancell other codes, they add some new every year. In '05 they included SCR codes in list.

You can easily use DDDL to test your engine, but you can not test VECU codes.

hAVE A 2004 VOLVO KEEP GETTING FAULT CODE MID 128, SID 146 & FMI 15...CAN'T FIND FMI 15 ANYWHERE. CAN ANYONE HELP OUT WITH WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE WHEN RECEIVING THE ABOVE CODES.

 

One more EGR issue

well, FMI 15 was reserved for future use in 2000 and now there are some different use of FMI 15 depending on engine manufacter, I usually see contaminated with ash and soot EGR inside with FMI15 code

EGR Valve Control - Mechanical System not Responding Properly or Out of Adjustment. EGR valve not responding or slow to respond.

Possible low power. Power will be removed from the EGR valve motor.

Possible causes of this fault include:

• Damaged EGR valve position sensor, mechanical or electrical damage.
• EGR valve assembly damage requiring a high current to operate the valve, such as a stuck or sticking valve.

The ECM monitors the response of the EGR valve and logs a fault code if the valve fails to respond as commanded. When the ECM stops commanding the valve, the fault code will go inactive; therefore, this fault code tree must be used to troubleshoot active and inactive faults.
This also means the only sufficient way to make certain the repair is complete is to run the INSITETM electronic service tool EGR valve test. Operating the engine is not adequate to verify the correct component was repaired or replaced.

i have an 02 volvo with volvo engine in it. does anyone have a wiring diagram for the engine/ecu? it won't start and is showing codes:

no communication with engine, engine not responding, cab controller not responding.

i have traced all wires, battery connections, checked ecu harness and tried another ecu on it off of an identical truck with no luck.

any help is greatly appreciated!
