Once again...modeling. Lets say you took the same spot as co. after running the same freight as o/o for years. You would have intimate knowledge of what it should pay and maybe the % to co. is not up to par with o/o. In other words, they couldn't screw you.
Or perhaps they felt that after being o/o, you couldn't transition to the co. side. You wouldn't be happy and they would lose you.
There's a hundred stereo types in a model ( driver, mechanic, manager ) and they believe through experience this model works best. The closer you are to the stereo type the better you fit.
