It is scary to consider leasing somebody on but even scarier to turn a driver loose in our other truck. The regs are so tight right now and so far we have found 2 drivers who, let;s just say, were not all they said they were. I am checking out a 3rd one now BUT...... I dig and dig because I have to. Not worth the risk to me but then I hate seeing a truck just sitting and not earning its keep.

Sorry DH is going to miss Robert Plant - maybe he can catch up with him later on down the road on the tour.

Those week long plays sure help make it nice to balance out the revenue and I am sure DH will enjoy a week's break.

    cherokee96red Thanks this.

I'm the same way, if the tires ain't turning you ain't earning. But for us it has turned out to be a lot less costly not to turn them than having the truck broke down, abandoned, towed or trashed and pay for someone to do any or all of the above.

DH had to take a year off from driving due to med issues with me. He had hoped that the no driving thing would become permanent but after what we have gone through in the last few months we realize that he had to get back behind the wheel as no one else could do what he does.

The tour just started last Friday and goes for 14 weeks with a break for Easter/Spring. He'll get home for a couple of days later this month when they perform in Tampa.

I like to pretend that if the tires ain't turning they aren't burning either. But letting them sit is hard on them, too. It seems to come down to the lesser of two evils and right now letting it sit seems to be the better of the two.

Does your medical condition allow you to go with him?

I had brain surgery in Oct 09 to remove a benign tumor. Recovery has been slow, that wouldn't stop me. What does stop me is the 17 yr old daughter, 2 dogs, paperwork, and assorted little errands here. I go on short local runs, but the tour wasn't going to work. Oh well!

Just getting his foot in the door as it were. This time it's just about everything needed for a play except the actors. We're O/O's, one truck. Spent many years hauling just about everything except livestock.

    Have you checked into Rocket?

Sorry, didn't mean to steal your thread. I did post a response to you to see if you had hear from Stage Call and what kind of offer they gave you, if any.

We have been in the entertainment business for 10 and going on 11 years. But we also haul freight.

Sorry to hear about the surgery but glad it was benign. I am sure the recovery has been slow and difficult both physically and emotionally. But you seem to have the right attitude about it. Just keep on keeping on. I know some days that is easier said than done. My daughter is grown (at least she is out of the house and thinks she is grown unless she wants something). My last 2 dogs were it for me. I had a poodle for 18 years and had to put her down and I had a for 17 years and she just disappeared one morning. It is like losing on of your kids and I said never again and I have only come close once but caught myself in the knick of time. I take my paperwork with me but that one piece of paper I always needs always seems to be one I left at home. The postmaster hates me. I really need a little red wagon to go in and pick up the mail. She puts the important stuff in the post office box, or at least what will fit, then she leaves a key in the box for a larger box in case I have any packages. Then she keeps the rest behind the desk. I keep telling her she can throw out all the ads and the really personal ones that are addressed to current resident but she can't so I go through it to be sure nothing important got in there and throw the rest away - usually in the garbage can in the post office. I wish I could get her to throw my bills out but I have kind of gotten used to the luxuries of running water and electricity and I don't think they would accept the postmaster threw your bill away so I didn't pay it, just send me a new one next month and I will pay that one.

Maybe you will get a chance to go with your husband when he gets back into Florida. I think you would enjoy it.

We own our own small company and I have seen what I think is the bad economy affect the shows. In this past year I have seen a lot of the one-weekers get cancelled or shortened because of bad ticket sales. They are routing all over the place with one-offs so we really haven't seen a lot sitting time. They usually have the shows scheduled for 14 to 16 weeks but if the ticket sales are too slow it isn't unusual to see the producers "cut their losses" and cancel the rest of the show. One can always hope for an upswing in the economy but I'm not holding my breath for that to happen anytime soon.

Just curious about the Stage Call drivers - doesn't Stage Call set them up for motels when they are out or are the drivers pocketing the hotel money and hanging out at the truck stops by choice? It doesn't really affect me but if I was paying a driver to sit and paying for a motel room for them I wouldn't care if they wanted to hang out in the truck stop but I sure wouldn't want to hear them complaining about it if it was their choice.
