Even a blind squirrel finds a nut ever once in a while.

    :biggrin_2559:

A coworker made the comment a few months ago that he wished he had done it all and knew it all like me.

I told him quick that I knew a little about a LOT and a lot about a LITTLE.
And that I had done so much cause I had a very mis-spent youth.

But I am one of those "survivalist types" with the belief that "specialization is for insects", and that everyone should have a diverse skillset that allows them to do much with very little.

    Great post there medicineman
i agree with ya. when i went through one of them run of the mill schools i was amazed at the crap thet wanted to take with them i heard one guy say he wanted a 50 inch plazma in his truck satellite tv xbox ps3 satellite internet right down to a home phone = voip you name it they acted like life was a party sorry we don't get paid to party we get paid to haul freight around unless theres a new job in trucking we don't know about rofl. id'e love to see there expressions when and if there boss called em and told em to get the hell out of there truck :biggrin_2559: well there goes your satellite tv dvd player plazma screen tv and everything else. and what id'e like to know is how are they gonna pay for all this stuff on a truckers salary?? then when they plug all this #### in theres wires in the truck will get hot and poof there goes there truck. funny thing is they didn't think about a sleeping bag or a 3 wick candle in case the truck broke down and there freezin there ### off somewhere in the middle of winter :biggrin_25524: as well as bottles of water and food to survive on in case they needed it and never mind if they stop at a scale and are over weight. yea i thought like that at first but then i thought about once i started learning everything about the lifestyle i changed my mind :biggrin_25525: real fast. an atlas a gps cd's clothes for a week a small tv with rabbit ears to pick up on local news and weather i can see the tv a coleman cooler a lap top a wireless air card satellite radio a sleeping bag a national truck stop directory a dig cam and a video cam for saftey reasons personal items 12 vac. though i will have a microwave and refer in my truck but i can understand them to.

i see alot of new drivers saying "where is my new truck" yes they all want new trucks. and what i would like to see is alot of the experienced drivers help out the new guy. our driver that are hired have to at least have some experience, but seeing the 15 or 20+ year driver helping out the 1 or 2 year driver is a good thing. like the local driver who really wasnt driving OTR but listed as this, well he was OTR but did very minimal of this, mostly local and he really had no idea about logs. i'm thinking oh lord help me. so across from him is sittting a 20+ year retired conway driver. all OTR I did even have to ask him to help my newer driver out he immediatley offered to help and he is still guiding him along.
pass along you vast experience and knowledge

not 50 inch plazmas lol. i wouldn't give a newbie a brand new truck i personaly would give em a good used truck till they get the experiance they need then get em a new truck if they do good for 2 years and take care of there truck then there are some drivers who don't take care of nothing cause they figure they don't own it then ya find trash and crap all over the place. i was taught to take pride in my truck not saying you don't just a seneriao

I agree with the poster to some extent...and respect his opinion.

I am a newbie as well and have very little experience on the roads. I would like to learn as much as I can from some of the more seasoned drivers.

I do have some experience though. Which consists of operating a truck in a war zone hauling high explosives. Over roads which were mostly booby trapped with land mines, suicide bombers, and artillery shells. All while being on the recieving end of the occassional small arms and mortar fire. I would have given anything to have been forced to stop and sleep after only 11 hours. Driving a truck for almost 49 hours straight with no sleep, no a/c, in 150 degree heat is not fun.

No disrespect intended but some of us may have a little more experience than you think. Just a little different than your use to.

1st. People are qualified upon getting their C.D.L. License. They did what was required to pass the exam and went to truck driving school and completed the requirements of their state. If you dont like it take it up with the legislature or call you congressman.
Book knowledge?? of corse they used a book dummy. How else do you pass down info. Do you think they learned by osmosis or telepathy.
An older thermos? Show respect? what exactly did he earn? What rspect is he due, he hasnt helped me do anything. He can wait in line like everyone else he has no speial privledges because he has driven a few miles mlore than some one else.
2nd. Driver mills. Yes they crank them out and starve them. Its called survival of the fittest. It is healthy to wean out the weak in a herd and maintain a strong fit and intelligent herd. Im all for it. I think the schools are doing it perfect. I would rather see 10 idiots try to make it coming from a school that taught them nothing rather than 10 expert drivers that were taught everything they needed to know to compete with me. Leave it just like it is. Let them fail and go bankrupt while owing 9000 dollars to a school that taught them absolutely nothing. And for the drivers with a dwi or bad records, if they are stupid enough to apply to become a truck driver then they deserve to be taken advantage of, take their 9000 too and keep that competition low.
And name one profession that gives you experience before giving you a degree? What profession if any. Even medical doctors get their so called licence to practice and have no training untill they go do their residency in an er for a few years. Real estate broker gets a licence and then goes out and gets experience with a company, lawyers same situation. This is how america works genius.
let them put toilets in their rigs and refridges and all that fancy stuff, it will keep them busy while I am picking up the nex load they could have got.
The rest of your statement warrents no intelligent response. I am not going to give out my trade secrets for free. Good luck with your griping. I think you need to look at what you are really upset about, its none of the above I assure you.:biggrin_2551::yes2557:
