Mcelroy is not a company that would do this to someone. I have never worked for this company. I have been around a lot of their drivers who speak highly of them. If you get on with them as a trainee you can expect to be treated fairly. By the way is it just me or has flatbed freight taken off in a big way the last month?

...frieght is up BIG TIME and McElroy has been more than fair with me. When the economy went south last year, they began dismantling their existing "student training" program. Almost all of the driver trainers were moved out of their trainer trucks and were given regular single bed sleeper trucks. We were told that since they were no longer "training", the heavier trucks were no longer needed. Now things have picked up and they seem to be recruiting drivers with prior experience.

Those who are now hired drive with a trainer for about a week or two before going solo. In Hagerstown, MD, they have the trainer and the recruit drive a day-cab during the runs, and then the trainer returns to his own sleeper truck for the night to sleep. I assume that the trainee goes home for the night. I'm not sure how they are handling trainees in other parts of the country.

i used to work for these people and was very unhappy, you could never count on any miles unless you were part of the chosen group. my milage would go from 1200-2000 . when i complaned that i was sitting to long i would get less frieght. to top things of i had a car run into me on 285 in atlanta, the car was trying to go in bettween me and anougher truck and hit me and the other truck. the fired me 3 days later because they said they thought they might have a law suit against them. i never gave them any trouble never turned down loads and this is what i got in return, now i find out 2 yrs later they put on my dack report i was a unsafe driver and bad employe. stay away if you can bad news:biggrin_25516:

I went to work for them in Aug. this year got through orientation with them. Then went through all of there test and past the test with flying colors. The day before I was going to be signed to a driver the instructer took me on a coarse that he has never been on. We set up wrong for a right hand turn and knocked light pole down. The trainer said it was his fault for letting me drive the route and he was going to take blame for it. Well go in the next day they said do to embarrasment and the cost they had to let me go. Without me giving my side of the story.I you call that good christian base. So now I can't drive for anyone because of the accident and they wouldn,t even let me draw unemployment say it was my fault of the accident. Me speaking I hope they go under for their unchristain acts...

I started my trucking career with this company in 2003...flatbedding work itself isnt that bad...my dispatcher was a ####### who spoke gibberish english, once he told me that i could drive 120 miles to the next fuel stop on an 8th of a tank of fuel, I was an ignorant rookie who was gullable enough to believe he knew what he was talking about, my truck was down for 3 days....i called the operations manager to discuss my distaste for my dispatcher and he was very pompous and arrogant...the next time i was routed through cuba i had a meeting with him and he was the same jerk with a kind of "Im gonna get you and have the last laugh thing" accusing me of running out of route...I resigned my position and moved on after that. The management left a bad taste in my mouth, I felt like a truck number instead of a person. The classroom trainer guy reminded me of an older version of the actor Jack Black. Im not surprised about all the people who say there driving records are blemished in a spiteful way by this company, Especially if they have the same heartless operations people. Dont let the Religous thing fool you, there are a bunch of people in Cuba, AL who have nothing better to do then find a reason to give you hell.

If a company calls & approves u within 24hrs of applying, then that usually is a bad sign that they are desperate for drivers. That's not enough time to do a full background check.

Perhaps you haven't hear of PSP. Yes it is between that and HireRite. Why is hard to get better? At this point, if they take too long, they are incompetent. My view, my experience. Small companies that pretend to verify will only get buggered up in an audit. Your choice.
