I noticed a lot of companies are starting to require these cards. Is there really that much of a need for everyone to have it?

the twic card just allows you into the ports... if your not going to the ports you don't need one
one37 Thanks this. -
If you are going into the ports it is mandatory to have.

I know what a TWIC is, but some companies require all the drivers to have, some I have been told are wanting all thier drivers to get. It seems a bit of an overkill.
-
It gives the dispatchers more flexibility in not having to schedule around credentialed drivers.
A driver should get more pay for TWIC dipatches.....one37 Thanks this. -
Not trying to be a smart ##### but if you want to work for one of them companys that require it, then.......... -
I went out and got a TWIC, I am questioning the expense and the overall need for getting it. I make the same amount without one, but it seems everyone is moving in that direction. When I see me making more or staying employed longer than the next guy I can see the justification.

Got mine 2 years ago. Not ever used it.

They're not mandatory at ports, you'll just have to have an escort and that costs money .Some ports I've been to, charged my company 75 bucks just to go back into a dock 2/10s of a mile, and on Sunday they only take cash so it's a pain. I'm getting mine so I'll have more loads available to me,and another thing You'll only be allowed to enter certain ports so many times in a certain period of time. I drive reefer and I went to one port 3 times another one twice and 1 in Cal once. My DM says they'll pay for it so why not. it's 132 dollars or 105 if you have hazmat endorsement.

I have a TWIC. They are required for any plant that has water access, as well as the ports. That being said, I have only had to show it at two plants and they don't scan it, they just look at the expiration date! What a joke! Just another way to get money out of us. You have to get a background check, just like the one that you got if you have a hazmat endorsement on your license THAT YOU ALSO PAID FOR!
bugsy siegel Thanks this.
