You might be right.
Ever notice that the trucks with the elog signs on them are running as fast as they can?
Some do not slow down for the construction zones and many are way over in the 55 zones.Jason George Thanks this. -
I have got to clear something up.....
I started with paperlogs and now run with E-Logs, that track things like; Hard Breaking, Overspeed, Over RPM, HOS and probably things I don't even know about. Allthough, I don't want our Government holding our hand, which they are not suppose to do anyway, and telling me what, where, when, who and how of my life,,,they have and do. So, lets get some things straight.
First of all,, speaking strictly legal here,,E-Logs are better than paper, period. There are a few problems, even for us legal eagles out here. One being the drive time around shipping or receiving property. Hell, I logged 15mins one day just to drop a trailer...that sucks but is not the norm. When the E-Log registers driving, you cant edit that at all. Our E-Logs will put you on line-3 after 4 minutes or one mile, whichever comes first. Now that is another thing,,even if I don't get put on line-3, does it still register the truck moving,,,yes it does.
I can edit all lines but line-3 and like everything, once you learn it's uses and how to tweak it, it works better than paperlogs. I get more miles now than I did with paper and that may be to a different DBL but the point is, I can get over 3000 miles per week with E-Logs.
Now, when I am at shipper/receiver getting loaded/unloaded than that time is SB but they are proposing to count all time at shipper/receiver as on duty/not driving time...that will not work and frankly, is just retarded.
So again, strictly running legal, I see no problem with E-Logs/OBR's. Also, if something does happen that is not my fault, the E-Logs don't lie, so they cant take my paper log and make it work to their advantage.
Anyway,,,why are we so worked up about this anyway when only 1000 or so drivers have commented on the new HOS proposal????? I love the fact that drivers will grype all day long; on the phone, on the CB, on forrums and out loud about the things that piss them off but cant take 15 minutes to respectfully comment to the FMCSA about how the new HOS proposal won't work and give insite on what would, if anything. I agree with the one that stated; You Cant Fix Stupid! and the government really needs to stop waisting our tax dollars trying. We are never going to keep people from dieing, or killing one another,,,hell been doing that FOREVER, it is part of life.
Ok,,time to go eat......

As to your SB time, the ONLY that you can legally log "Sleeper Berth", is when your butt is actually IN THE SLEEPER!
As to why We don't comment to the FMCSA, they are too busy taking money from the lobbyists that are paying to have this stupid agenda shoved up our arse to give a rat's rear end what some broke-arse, unclean, barely literate group of hill Billy truckers have to say! (For the record, this is their opinion of us, not an attack on anyone! )Jason George and 123456 Thank this. -
My carrier requires me to do three daily inspections.I use this time to full fill my second and sometimes third inspection of the day. So not do I only save time I make my carrier happy as well.

Unfortunately, we NEED regulations because without them, unscrupulous and ignorant operators, companies, and customers would turn our streets and highways into killing fields in very short order. Greed, corporate and personal, would cause countless deaths and injuries. Human behavior being so predictably corrupt, I'm sure you can agree.
As to aggressive driving, let me tell you of my experience. I had a local, pay by the hour job many years ago in the DC metropolitan area delivering lumber. If I was held up in traffic (DAILY )? I didn't care, I was getting paid! Held up at a receiver? I didn't care, I was getting paid! Broke down? I didn't ....well you get the point!!!
I wish Corporate America and our lawmakers cared enough to actually read these posts, but I'm pretty sure they don't give a ####, kinda makes all this a moot point.

I get paid by the load and not the hour. I like it that way personally.
As far as logging sleeper, I bet they are going to come out with a sensor that notices if you are sitting in one of the front seats and it will automatically log you as on duty not driving. So forget about sitting in the truck stop watching other trucks backing into each other from the cab.Jason George Thanks this. -
Good points. If the driver was being compensated for loss time, then things would be different.Jason George Thanks this.

Hard braking, overspeed and over RPM recording is in every electronic engine ECM. In our company's O/O safety/insurance program we have our ECM's dumped every quarter and these are among the things they monitor. Some of our O/O's don't like it, think it's the proverbial "nanny looking over my shoulder" thing, but it gets me $1 per thousand dropped off my physical damage rate, and money saved is money......saved.SheepDog Thanks this. -
That's far from a universal attitude though.
I deliver to one of the auto plants where a lot of loads get delivered by city shuttle drivers (Penske, Marten & Ryder).
It's unbelievable what some of those guys will do to shave a few seconds.
They're all on the clock.
It makes no sense to me, even if you aren't on the clock.
While training my son I'd point out a truck once in a while & tell him to watch while a driver was trying to push through heavy traffic by tailg-aiting, lane-hopping, etc.
As often as not you could watch them all the way through a metro.
Guys take dozens of risk & shave less than a minute off of a half hour.
