I know this radio is the grandfather of modern day 29's but has anyone done any mod's on this? Interested in knowing if RFX-75 can be installed echo board maybe some led's as well. I know they look pretty much the same but guts are quite different. Just think it would be a cool item to show friends in the hobby. Any help would be appreciated.

As to if anyone has done any of those, I'd guess "Maybe, but probably not -- why?"
Sounds kinda like dropping a hemi and a $3,000 stereo into a 1964 Dodge Dart.
The RFX wouldn't help the receiver at all. Indeed, on some radios, like the Cobra 25, it hurts the receive sensitivity.
And I don't get what's cool about echo in the first place. It seems like if you put an RFX and echo onto a 29, you'll be able to annoy people farther away that you can't even hear. White LEDs, though, will extend the life of the dial lights.
That radio, if it works now, probably has greater value to a collector in its original state.
Just my opinion, though.

Oh it works alright found one in a garage still in box mint...a great find...and a price to die for FREE!!!! Just wondering if anyone knew of any mods or has done any maybe just white led's and white channel display and tune will keep it not going to sell.

LOL! That's great! And yours isn't a rust bucket, which is more what I was imagining in my comparison.
Kinda like a Q-Ship from WW-II.
Some of the parts in your XLR are no longer available, so my suggestion, if you need more power, is to run into an outboard amp, rather than wringing the last tenth of a watt out of the finals in the radio or clipping the modulator. The finals, driver, and audio chip are long obsolete (depending on the age of your specific radio), so any repairs necessary from riding it too hard will change the landscape inside to adapt to different replacement parts.
Let it run at 3 or 4 watts and it'll run forever. Make it do 7 or 8 watts and you'll be able to rate its life in weeks instead of years. I'd suggest having it put on a bench someplace with the tools to do a proper tuneup, i.e., scope, service monitor, "real" wattmeter, and leave the modulator stage stock.
Nice find!

I thought who wouldn't want that. Then I saw what I saw andsweet.
I really have no answer to your question other than give Doug a call and all your questions will be answered. I get the impression you like to do your own work but a helping hand can go along way. This is just one example of what he does with a Cobra 29, I can't say to the LXR. http://customcbradios.com/Cobra-Black-Chrome-Stealth-Radio-RFX-Version-P643685.aspx of all the radios I own ( Don't ask it is embarrassing) this is now my favorite! -
My 138 XLR was tuned, but my tech said you cant get much for watts out of them. It puts out 11w PEP. I had the LED's switched to blue, looks sharp. Variable power was put on the tone control. Mine was not an NIB find but it is still in like new condition.
I just sold my 29 XLR that I had plans for, life got in the way lol. -
I think you would be better off running a seporate amp with it if you can or selling it to me to keep new in that box for safe keeping. LOL
