I finished orientation Thursday and got my new truck. It is a 2011 Peterbuilt. I am on my first run from Springfield to Phoenix then to Portland Oragon. Truck has been getting 7.5 mpg so no complaints here.
    So far so good.

dodge24v, ironpony and one37 Thank this.

The Petes all have Cummins engines in them.

Its not unusual for a new driver to get a new truck at Prime. It all depends on what is available the day you hit the leasing office after orientation - leasing controls all truck assignments whether you are going company or lease.

Quite often the trucks that have been turned in are sought-after by new leasees because of the short lease periods attached to them before the truck is retired - three years (four for tankers and flatbeds) or less depending on the mileage. My first truck was a high-time Century because that was all they had that day. I chose to take it out rather than sitting around Springfield waiting to see what would turn up. Good choice, it ran well - turned it in 60-days later for a very well maintained Century out for 9 months when I got it. The gal who had leased it previously wanted to spend more time with her kids - met her in Houston one afternoon. My current tractor is a brand new '09 Cascadia.

The used trucks are not always beaters... depends on how the previous driver cared for it. They're all detailed and the maintenance guys go over it before it is turned out again - and then you get your chance to inspect it and get everything repaired that you find before you go out.

That's true Iron. Pete has not used Detroit since the 1990's when they had their divorce over warranty issues. As for the motor I have a ISN cummings which is the small block version of the ISX. As for the truck assignments they are running short on trucks as there was a delay at freight liner production. They are now getting single cab cascadias in and they have the DD11 engines in which is a small block version of the DD15.
