Truck doesn't shut off. If the driver is reasonable in his idling use, then the co. is too. I found USX to be reasonable in this area. -
thanks poobah!! i do agree with there idling rules to i just can't see getting heat stroke and or freezing to death in a truck like some of these companies make you do and i'm very concerned with my saftey as well as the publics saftey.
-
That is the policy, but you might get some flack from your FM. Mine told me I could only idle during my 10hr break....and it was 20 degrees in the daytime!!!
That was just one of the reasons I now have a new FM. -

thats what i was worried about is my 10HR break thats cool with me some companies don't even allow you to idle during that time and or the trks shut down after 5 mins. and yes if i have any probs then an fm i can and would request a new one
be safe guys.

Hey, glad you got that sorted out.

Hi, I have been reading your posts regarding idle time. When I drove OTR I used to idle the truck all night. Its cold in the NorthEast in the winter. -10 degrees sometimes. The companies mechanic would reprogramm the computers 5 minute idle time.
My question is what do you do when your truck keeps shutting down every 5 minutes. Do you freeze? Do you have an alternate source of heat like an APU unit. Do you place a stick on the throttle so it idles continusly. I am curious to know how things have changed since I been out of it. Thanks! -
In all of the trucks I have seen, there is a bunk heater also. It can blast you out of the cab with the heat.
ZoeJoe Thanks this. -
Ya,Sure,But doesn"t that only work if the truck is idling??
-
No, the bunk heater is completely independent. The truck can be off.Bumpy Thanks this.
