We have several Macks in our fleet that have well over 1.5 million miles and have never had a major overhaul. Depending on how the truck is maintained, and assuming that the drivers are not abusive, it is certainly possibe for it to happen.

Its not only possable it has become routine for the newer motors to go well over 1 million miles with out haveing an overhaul. the old days of every 500,000 doing the top end and every 250,000 roilling a new set of bearings are over with. the new motors and the new oils have made 1 million mile motors common place my last truck had 1.3 million on it when it was done and it was more of i felt better about doing it then it realy needed it but i was getting leary and was ready to do it then and the shop made me good deal on a complete in frame while i had the transmission beeing rebuilt and some front end work beeing done at the same time i had them do the whole thing from front end to the drive's. So the answer is deffinatly a doable thing now days.

I know several drivers who have had or have over a million miles on their engines, and never done 1 thing other then general maintenance.

ok thank you for your information

Mack, CAT, and Cummins you can see over a million. Detroits are rare to see that many.

ok thank you

Yes it is extremely possible with routine maintence.
I have had 2 Detroit 12.7 that went over 1,000,000 with good oil analysis reports before trading up.
I do my b service every 10,000 mi with A service at 5,000. and run Shell Rotella. Use Lucas oil and fuel treatment. -
My husband and I owned a 2001 Freightliner Classic. When we bought it the odometer read 198,000. When we sold it, a year ago in February, the odometer read at 1,352,202 (well, actually it read 352,202).
We never had an overhaul. But we did regular pm's every 10-12,000 miles and added a gallon of lucas everytime. She ran like a charm. We were sad to see the old girl out on the road. The guy who bought it ragged it out. She was looking so very sad.
That Detroit engine was fantastic! -
Just maintain your engine properly and don't let it overheat. Belts, hoses, fluid levels, radiator cap, proper service etc, are the keys to the life of your engine.
