Dave 1960.. I've worked for PAM and if your sitting to wait for a load your crazy. I never sat for a long period of time when I was at PAM. I did mostly 2500-3000 but the majority miles where 3000. The highest I ever did was 3400+ and a lot of 3200.

You need to let your Dispatcher know you WANNA Run. And when s/he gives a load run it. Be sure your their early and also you deliver early as well. If it says 4 days and you can get it their in 2.5, get it their. Call the consignee and see if they will take it early. Also call the shipper to see if you can pick-up early. When I was their I was always calling the shipper and consignee... I never or rarely picked up and delivered on the time or date they wanted it. Always get there early and you will see the difference on how you run.

As for the idle on your FL their are ways around the opti idle and if you have a rig that has 350k on it you won't get an APU. Call the Road Rescue and ask them about adding an APU on your rig.

Overall PAM isn't that bad for a company they just have a few issues within. But which company doesn't. I do think and know there Medical/Dental/Vision + Life Insurance is one of the best!! For myself and family I only paid 58.00 per wk which I had 100k for all four of us. The other companies you will be paying anywhere from 85.00-120.00 just for Medical/Dental plus extra for Vision.

Even though I don't work for them I have received 3 calls from the company to come back and become a trainer.

There are a few companies, but they are hard to find. Also, good companies are relative to the driver. When I was at Crete/Shaffer I met a driver that thought that Crete was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I worked at 3 OTR companies in 9 years (Shaffer/Millis/Landstar), I thought Shaffer was the worst of the three. Then I asked him where he drove before, he said, England, Covenant and Werner. So from his perspective it was good. I didn't like all the micromanaging ########, but he was used to it. First rule when looking for a good company. Scratch the #### off your list. England, Werner, Swift, Covenant, Prime, JB Hunt, CRST, US Express, LCT. Bigger companies generally suck. Slow trucks and a lot of micromanaging.

Im glad i found this site alot of good info, alot of sour grapes to but to each his own maybe that company did "suck" for your purposes to others might be good, i signed on with XXXXX right out of school, Jan 21st of this year went to orientation 2 weeks later (their fault not mine) passed orientation but then there wasnt enough trainers so i was sent home (Wi to Fla) where i was suppossed to be picked up this past monday then tuesday they called to say it would be thurs/fri..... next day they called to say the trainers truck (he's an o/o) was in the shop and it wouldnt be ready till next week !!! so a month after graduating im still sitting home without a paycheck..... I understand i NEED at least 6 months otr before local companies will even look at me so i guess i just have to ride this out, im hoping after this initial hiccup XXXXX works out to be a good start.
Thanks for all the good info guys.
    later,, n stafe safe.

oh so after reading another post about companies checking this site to see what there drivers say i edited the company name outa respect for them.

Wantago...good decision in my book. I went to them after getting my CDL. Drove for 2 years company with them. Just returned to them as an O/O after trying for 3 years to work for some other companies that were, shall we say, not some of the best. I have a friend who went to Roehl's school and got a good start on a driving career. Not too many companies are training new drivers. PM me if you have any further questions.

Sorry to say , but its hard to tell any more. Alot of "GOOD" companies have been forced out of business , that is within the past 2 years.
