ok so after weeks of reading on companies, i decided to go with prime. I have a completely clean driving record, and held my last job for nearly 3 years before i quit to go to a college out of state. That was at the end of 2008. Soon after that the stock market crashed and we entered the next great depression. I collected my enemployment for as long as i could, some 80 weeks, and applied for at least the 2 jobs per week required by unemployment and of course wasnt offered a job for more than minium wage. Now prime denied my application only because i havent "gainfully been employed for the last 30 of 36 months." what do u people think of this. to me it seems like a vicious cycle, cant find work so they wont give u work.
prime requires you to be "gainfully employed" for 30 out of the last 36 months

There was an article on Yahoo just yesterday about companies(not trucking compnies, just businesses in general) that are starting to refuse applicants that have been out of work for extended periods of time. There was a day and time when I could maybe understand this when things were good and jobs were plentiful and most that were unemployed for long periods were generally undesireable applicants but things are so much different now and there are so many qualified job hunters out there that have been out of work for a while due to no fault of their own. 30 out of 36 months seems pretty tight to me as well.
teddy_bear6506 Thanks this. -
do u ever have any thing useful to say or just full of one liners?123456 Thanks this.

If you need two liners, just ask.
Why were you sucking off the teet so long ??
And you wouldn' accept any jobs paying minimum wage.
Surprise, surprise, surprise...........you're fixing to make Less than minimum !!!! -
When is the last time you were out of work? Many of us who are unemployed could not get a minimum wage job as we would be considered overqualified. It's easy to get stuck: overqualified for a low wage job, but no longer qualified to work in your former profession. Besides, didn't he say he was going to school at the time trying to improve his chances of getting a job?venne Thanks this.

Ahem...Never feed the trolls.
Keep on applying. I didn't get hired by my first or second choice companies. In fact, Prime wasn't even on my radar. I had no interest in ever working here. Yet I love working at this company. The same thing could happen to you. Just move down the list and keep applying.
You will definitely have some trouble though, I can tell you that. I think everybody's unemployment should be reviewed on a case by case basis, but most trucking companies have limits very similar to Prime.venne Thanks this. -
you state you drew it as long as you could for 80 weeks, what was the difference between the min wage job and the amount you got in unemployment? did you finish college at the out of state school? would it not have been cheaper to go to a school where in state tuition was cheaper? why wait 80 weeks to apply for a driving job? did you only start applying to trucking jobs when you totally exhausted unemployment? and say a trucking company hired you, if a non trucking job that fits your high standards came open would you then leave the trucking job in a heartbeat? why did you apply only to the minimum of two companies per week, why not 10? did you just do the minimum to keep drawing unemployment so you wouldnt take a job beneath your high standards?,
maybe someone at prime asked these same questions while looking at your application want to know who screwed ya over? look in the mirror -
I read that same article.

i will be honest, i have not worked since 9/08. i went to wyotech, a privately owned school, an automotive school and quit b/c it would have cost me $30,000 for 9 months of school and felt that i wastnt being taught enough for the money, alot for someone paying by themself w/o grants or rich parents to pay for them. i have had good work history and a good standing with any previous boss. i was a press operator for 3 yearrs and even applied for a press operator job which i was turned down. i was making $35,000 per year which may not seem like a lot to some but is wayyyy better compared to $8 per hour that i am now offered.
