I admitted that I was lazy. WAS. What I am saying is that I have changed. I want to work hard. I want to be a good husband. A good father.
I am no longer chained to my past, so please stop lingering on it. This thread is not about whether or not I'll be a good trucker, or whether or not I'll give up on it, or whatnot. It's about whether or not I can actually GET HIRED.
This piece of info is not helpful, considering I can't get a job at a place near my home. What I can do is pay for trucking school. Can I get hired after trucking school? That's the topic at hand.
I want.. no I NEED to be a trucker, but I have a bad history.

Can your family get by on $298 per week for 8 weeks (your take home pay if you go to Werners)And you will not be home at all during that time, your only contact will be cell phone and internet.
As long as you have a decent driving record and no dui's or felonies, and you can survive on that pay try it out.Get your class A then get as many prehires as you can;they are always looking for fresh meat to put through the grinder lol. -
Are you ready to leave your wife and kids for 6 weeks at a time to come home for four days with them? Are you going to earn as much money driving a truck as you are as a recording engineer?
Quit kicking yourself and using your past as an excuse. You'll get no sympathy from anyone. Your past does NOT equal your future. You say you are bad at certain things, like collections.... ever try just being BETTER at it? Develop your skills? Nothing comes natural, you have to work at it. If you want to earn a lot of money, you are not going to do it in trucking. How about you just demand to yourself that you STOP being lazy? Do you think you'll just stop being lazy automatically if you are a truck driver? There is no room for lazy drivers out there. You wont last two months.
If you want to know if you will be hireable, just start calling company recruiters and talking to them about your work history. If you can get a pre-hire with your history, it just might be your foot in the door. -
I don't know who told you that you could make a good living at trucking but no doubt they didn't explain the whole picture. It's going to take awhile before you see any real money and that's only if you keep everything in good status. I recommend to people that are going into the business to have 6 months of money put away. That's the same amount you spend every month x 6 in the bank.
If you don't pay for school then you'll be forced to go to one of the mega-carriers then they will get their money first and you get a little what's left over. And they don't care if you have a family or not. Sure you could be the one that's lucky and right off the bat you're making good money. But the odds are not in your favor.
I've never heard of the "Loser Complex" and to be honest I think that's funny. I'm sorry but I just do not believe there's such a thing. Now if you want to make good money and take care of your family you can start doing that right now. Get yourself down to any of the military recruiting offices and join the service. Your pay starts as soon as you're sworn in. Also the do not care if you have a "Loser Complex", boot camp will take care of that.Wargames and groovemachine Thank this. -
Get your CDL, get hired on...sure there's a few companies that'll look at you. Worse comes to worse after that you can always become a trainer.

All the Drivers on this post, are exactly right. Forget about seeing your family, and if you threaten the company, by saying, "I have to go home, something happen." You`ll never work in this industry again. You`ll be marked. What you should do, find a small company, drive one of there vans or Stepvans, That will be a start. But the best idea, is Join the Military, they will train you to be a MAN first. Good Luck.
Rerun8963 Thanks this. -
No sir, that statement is incorrect. Your pay starts after you arrive basic training...usually on the day you "inprocess" the MPF. You can be sworn in on delayed entry up to 6months....that could be futile to some if that happened, and thinking/expecting a pay check to be coming in!
TO MICHAELGRAVES:
First you need to separate your WANTS and your NEEDS. You need to make a list of pros and cons of trucking....and get the facts on what to expect. You could go to school and ace it*wishful thinking* and then find out you cant get a job b/c of this or that.....well then thats just money wasted. You could go through school...get hired by a company and then find out after being out 3-4 weeks w/ trainer that it isnt for you.....again out of the money from schooling....and then the company might screw up your DAC and you will never work in the industry!
*RESEARCH*RESEARCH*RESEARCH*RESEARCH*RESEARCH*RESEARCH*
and then after that......................RESEARCH!!!!!!!Rerun8963 Thanks this.
