I'm starting and independent 2 week school in Fontana. (i live a few miles away) for $1,200 and amazingly i found a lot of the major companies hire from there. Seriously thinking about Werner, already have an orientation set up when the school is done. I'm 59 yr. old with family here (wife, 2 grown married daughters and 7 grand kids and don't really want to do otr. the Werner recruiter says there is now 5 openings for dedicated. LA to No. Cal. and L.A. to Phoenix. and if still open i can get that as a newbie. of course she cannot guarantee they'll be available when Im ready to go solo, but can guarantee regional home 2 days out of 10 and when a dedicated spot opens I can have a chance at it. I need to know from any Werner drivers. If shes just blowing smoke? or is this real?

Its easy to tell when recruiters are lying. Just like lawyers..... when their mouth is running.
Now I'm sure that not all of them are that bad, but their corner of the industry has a bad reputation.
Personally I wouldn't drive for Werner any more than I would drive for Swift. -
The bigger the sleeper the longer you will be out!!!!

werner policy is 1 day off per wk on the rd. Kind of ironic that i am sitting at the indy term right now waiting for a load so i can get home today.
Also there are 3 rules to go by when talking to a recruiter.
#1 DONT BELIEVE THE RECRUITER
#2 DONT BELIEVE THE RECRUITER
#3 DONT BELIEVE THE RECRUITER -
"werner policy is 1 day off per wk on the rd."
that's do-able, BUT! do they get you home for that 1 day off?
and is there any truth that a newby can get on a dedicated run home on weekends with drive-bys. during the week, as the recruiter stated. also not real thrilled about the 6 weeks training at $325 a week, who can afford to live on that? and, if i do well, in the 1st few weeks, can the training be cut short. or is the 6 weeks mandatory. -
SoCal. I think you are missing the message, Werner (and a host of other companies) will not live up to what they promise.
In other words, explore more options. -
nope that is why he is at the term waiting for his load that way they can claim well you had your one day off when you were waiting for the load.

No you have to be out atleast 17 days. Then you will get 2.5 days off. So no can not go 1 week and take a day off.
Now listen to this I still havent made it home. 4 days late so far. One thing you will find out real quick is that the weekend dispatchers suc..
There is dedicated runs out thre to be had. Just make sure and sign up for them while you are in oreintation. Cause there is a wait list for them. So hopfully it will be available when you get done with road training.
As for getting done early that is doubtful. 275 driving hrs is what they want. My trainer tried to get me done 20 hrs early. But, they wouldnt do it.
Infact dont be surprised if you get a qualcom message when you about done to stay out another week. And they will give an extra $150 for that week. That is up to you if they offer it if you do it or not.
As for the 325 a wk yea it is tough. If the trainer has some kind of cooker and a cooler on board see if he will let use it. Hit the walmart and as much as will fit in the cooler.
Eating truck stop food everyday will kill your money.. -
Sounds like a good old bait and switch. Next you'll be hearing well we don't have any openings right now, but your at the top of the list.
The recruiters have a quota, some are not very honest in their approach to filling that quota.
The good news is you're at the right site for finding out from drivers what the real deal is.
