I am looking to purchase a decent quality CB in the San Francisco Bay Area. Wondering if anyone out there has someone they could recommend?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

do a google search for them..
cobra, uniden, midland are all good.... -
President George, or Galaxie 99. A must, roadking mic.
I have a President Geo. with a old 800watt messenger. I key-up, the lights go dim. -
On line or Radio shack. Or take a trip down to Salinas and visit the Pilot T/S.

First, the CB radio is not the most important thing. The antenna is the most important part of any CB setup. I suggest at least a 4 foot antenna. Personally I like 4 1/2 to 6 foot antenna lengths.
.
Last year, Pilot had a sale on Midland 5001Z radios for $50 during the months of March and April. T/A had a sale on Cobra 29's during May and June but I don't remember the price. If you can put off your purchase or shop around, you may be able to save some cash.
.
One last thing, more money gets you more features. It does not get you more power. The legal limit for a CB radio is 4 watts. Cobra 29, compact CB radio or anything inbetween; they all have pretty much the same output power.
.
WARNING: just stay the [bleep] away from buying a Cobra 18. Cobra 18 is the worst radio available but every other Cobra, Uniden or Midland is okay. -
Thanks, great information! I will look online and appreciate all of the suggestions. I had absolutely no idea the antenna was so important.
Will research online and see what I can come up with. -
Think back to antenna days of TV. You could have the nicest console in the world (showing my age?) but if you didn't have a nice roof mounted system you'd miss half your show adjusting the rabbit ears.

There's a CB shop at the 49'er in Sacramento. They have done OK by me a couple of times- not really the friendliest people, but they fixed my problems & didn't rip me off. There may be a good CB guy around Petaluma, I'd have to ask somebody I know from there....
