Companies for a new trucker to avoid?

Personally I would strongly recommend you avoid the mega-carriers. There are so many good smaller companies out there that don't have to spend millions of dollars in advertising to get you to work for them! Smaller companies are going to treat you like a human being instead of a number. Also when you have a problem or need something you are going to be more apt to getting helped at a smaller company. Home time will also be easier. In general your chances of success are going to be much greater with the smaller to mid size companies. I don't think there is anything "evil" about the mega-carriers they are just so large and are there for profit not the driver. They recycle so many drivers because it is cheaper to do so. There are drivers who are happy working there and do well too. Every trucker has their own niche, wants and needs and you just have to find a company that is going to be best suited for you. In that same breath when talking to recruiters take everything with a grain of salt! I would believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. Keep in mind they get paid commission! Of that list I would avoid all but 2. USX and Snidey.

 

If you can get with Watkins, I was only with them for a month but they were a very good company. Plus they have a terminal in Sayreville NJ not to far from NYC. Goodluck

I asked "what questions should I ask a prospective new employer"

One of the questions was, "Do they deliver to NYC"!!!! Hehehehee

New York streets were designed for horses and buggies, and now there are cars parked on both sides of those streets.... JMHO (with very little knowledge)

But I don't have to tell you about the area...

At least you know enough already to stay away from England. It seems to me that any company that has to have an armed guard at their training site to walk in the sleeping area at night is probably not a place that I would want to be.
