I only see 2 10'6" bridges in the Atlas for NY and neither say Fairport, I wonder if that whole road is a restricted route?

I AGREE NY is a PITA--just quick advice if you do not run NYC much(just city not state here)--If you take notice--on the surface streets--you will see Truck Route signs--usually @intersections--WHITE SIGN--BLACK LETTERS--WITH SOLID LINE ARROWS_usually # intersections where truck routes meet--there will be an arrow pointing ahead(in your direction)or in each directions(for cross street) if you are traveleing on one of these marked truck routes your OK--IGNORE the height signs--just be careful at overpass-train trestle(etc)of the edges!!
If i was out of service(neck surgery)I'd take a couple of pics and post--(gonna be out another 90days or so)maybe someone else on here that runs regular knows what I mean and can help out.
Also I'm sure someone on here is going to love to argue this--but it does work--I know I've only been going up there for 30 years or so--so I'm still green but.....
Just my $.02
REMEMBER__THIS IS FOR NYC(5boroughs)ONLY!otherhalftw and rocknroll nik Thank this. -
Check this link and links within--It might help!
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/motorist/truckrouting.shtml.
There is a download link for the 2010 map--also a link to write for a printed copy
I promise you--if you follow these routes you will come up upon many a low (under 13'6")sign! but you'll be good to go!
hope it helps!Last edited by a moderator: Feb 20, 2011

Aren't some of the bridge clearances "assumed" for snow accumulation? I was told this once...quite a bit ago...(years back)...it seemed plausible at the time...rocknroll nik Thanks this.
-
That is what I have always been told as well. Another thing to keep in mind is repaving of roads and streets.otherhalftw Thanks this.

I don't think their "assumption" of accumulated snow depth worked out to well this year!
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
Another thing I had been told as well Otter was that the measurement was from the curb to the bridge.......I didn't like that reason any better than the snow depth one...
otherhalftw Thanks this. -
That's right...forgot about that one!rocknroll nik Thanks this.
-
I was told that unless the sign said "ACTUAL" that the height was from curb.
rocknroll nik and otherhalftw Thank this. -
Regardless,
if a driver can't eyeball a decent guesstimate,
how'd this person get as far as he did ?????
If there is only 4 feet between vehicles, would he try to go between them ??
Me thinks this driver, is not cut out to be a Driver !!!
