Word down the grape vine is that O&S did away with company truck's and is nothing more than lease and O/O's now. I know they had company driver's when I was at Prime but not sure about it now. IWX doesn't seem to be to bad either. Don't ever hear anything about them.
Give me 80%, We'll improve it to 100%

Replying to "pocketchange"....
Strict by the books? Log everything by Qualcomm? OH LORD NO! Say it ain't so! You have to run legal for O&S? Well forget that!
Let me guess, the part where you said "You needed more miles...", Let me take a stab at how that conversation went:
pocketchange: "I need more dang miles!"
dispatcher: "Ok, here's this load ________"
pocketchange: "Nope. I don't run that area." or "I won't run that, I need to get home" or "I don't take runs for that amount of mileage" or "I don't run at night" or "I don't run during the day".......
LoL.
I've been O&S for years. Seems the guys who are complaining and failing are the ones who are picky about where/when they run, average 4 MPG, and just plain don't understand business. Go back to being a company driver where you can run with someone for a few years (probably weeks in your case) and have no equity to show for it. These posts crack me up. Someone calling the company a "sinking ship"! That's a good one. Times are tough, where exactly are these companies that are handing out bonuses and raises like it's going out of style? Nowhere. Everywhere is tightening the belts a little for the better of the company as a whole. Hard to grasp that idea for a lot of you all, I know. -
From a good source: 60 trucks are parked with no drivers. O&S is now a total lease purchase program company! From what I heard some "heads" are going to roll straight out the door from being a little to "positive" in their treatment to the only people bringing in the money! If they ever bring back the company drivers all of the yoyo's from Stevers will need to be out the door and a few others before me or any of the old company drivers will even think of going back no matter how much we liked O&S!

Here is my W-2 for 2008. It's only for 25 1/2 weeks and for a company driver. As it was told to me a few weeks ago O&S could not afford to pay company drivers or we were costing them to much money! Ok I'll buy that! But for you fleece drivers want to match your 1099? This is a TRR link to the W-2 http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ckers-advice/108869-my-25-week-w-2-proof.html

I was with O&S 4 a total of 4 months. At first I was doing great, had a good fm, he took a position elsewhere in the company, then I was given probably the worst fm there. I switched fm after talking with the GM. I never turned down any loads, got paid by the mile as a MEGA TRUCK, LP, the only problem I had with them, was they pay PC MILER SHORT MILES, not practical miles. Then they are switching to electronic logs. I hardly ever run the short miles because of the back roads in some of the states. Plus they take longer to get from point A to Be. Well, just like any other driver, you talk to other drivers, so you get online and fill out an app somewhere. They called O&S for employment verification. From that point it went down hill.

GOOD STORY.... I WOULD NEVER....fLESSE

MY, MY, MY! I just found out today and confirmed it on the O&S website..........
They are back to hiring company OTR drivers! I didn't write it down in earlier posts but among friends I said it would be about 3-4 years and they would get company drivers back! Too bad I didn't put money on it!
The sad part is the pay which is early 2000 pay and they cut the NYC pay in half when most companies are still throwing $150 at their drivers to cross a stupid bridge!
I have spread the word to some of the old company drivers today with the news and only 1 said he "might" go back. When he found out that the one named after a bird and a female safety director plus a few others were gone meaning fired and released he said he'll check it out! I drove by and it looks like a used truck lot! The lease drivers are finding that it's not exactly the best way to truck. IDK how the office is working but the driver I talked to said it went down on loads what with the many companies undercutting rates with the idea that they would get better loads not thinking that those cheap rates would not cover expenses like they should.
I had said I would never go back to them because of how they let me go and the rest with that cold hearted lease or leave attitude. Right now I'm looking for a lawyer that wants to sue the crap out of New York State due to the idiots who run the "medical review board" which I might do a thread on later, but If I can get this brain back in working order and because I know how every other trucking company within 500 miles operates and if O&S would take me I just might go back because many of the things that happens with other companies like that get it back here and we'll fix it didn't happen there except for minor crap like a broken AM/FM or a non working window but if it was covered by the FMCSA it got fixed, no questions asked. Tires got changed and if it fell off it got replaced. O&S did NOT want that DOT officer putting the equipment OOS! Any problem with pay was taken care of right then and there no BS excuses given, And if Jim is anything like he was before some of the "hires" he brought in, in the late 08's and from that other company who the S in O&S used to belong to are gone then O&S will become the company it used to be. It's my belief that he got hoodwinked into going to that L/P program.
I'll say it again. O&S had their ducks in a row until an old name came back home happened and things slowly started on a downhill slide.
Trailers inspected every time it came through the yard and not left on the drop lot with flats and lights out or air leaking through a sieve. Pre plans when needed, pay on time and little problem, equipment that worked, office people there 24/7 and most who knew their jobs. If needed ask a dispatcher to call you and the cell would ring instead of sitting on hold all day eating up minutes and batteries. If there was a problem with some arse wipe shipper or receiver a simple message to the dispatcher and thing were taken care of!
To put it in a way that most can understand: O&S WAS the standard that companies should be governed by! Yes I slammed them in TR a few times but that was due to what had become of a really good company I was proud to call home and most of you in TTR knows that I do not beat around the bush or sugar coat anything! I shoot from the hip!
But if this company were to get back to pre 2008 or 2007 standards then this will be one company that would not have a turnover rate like many have out there! Yes there are always some who even if being fed with a silver spoon will see something that looks like gold or who can't drive or schedule for crap and blame the company and go for the greener pastures or get fired! They will be having to store applications because those who know a good company won't be quitting!
Now, if God would give me MY life back and not just a life I'd be knocking on O&S's door looking for my old job back! And yeah, the NYC pay was cut in half but heck, I would still go there on that dedicated load IF they can get it back! That's something that the L/P's and O/O's screwed up and it paid so well! Whiny arsed crybabies!
OK God fix my darn brain please!jellybean Thanks this. -
I just got off the phone with a buddy who still drives for them and it seems that Jim is doing a pre, sell the company sale, house cleaning. There will be approximately 100 trucks and 150 trailers left before he gets out of the business.
It's sad because we all know how the sale of a trucking company works out.
The new owners changes the rules to how they run a company.
Drivers are told you won't be fired or your pay won't get cut or some line of crapola like that
The office personnel get told the same thing and then they come in and pink slip is sitting on their desk and their stuff is in a box because some new hire is sitting there.
In other words inside of a year there is not one single person left from the old company.
And in many cases all the buyer wanted was:
Customer base
Equipment
Buildings
The rest goes on the trash heap.
Looks like we get another 20+ people on the unemployment rolls with a few that have been there since I hired on in 97 might have to take an early retirement, as, when you get to my age or higher why hire a short term employee which we have become because there isn't 20 more in our bodies, when there are fresh out of school young people ready to go to work.
If you are thinking of the new company driver offer for company drivers, I would highly recommend that you ask this one question while you are interviewing them for a job: Is the rumor that O&S might be up for sale true?
Having seen in person how the personnel get slammed in a major sale I would just wait until the waves settle down and policies are written and put into effect and see how every thing turns out unless you like that kind of drama!
