Thanks for the words of encouragement jedi tev. We are in week 4 of school and just finished 3 days of alley backing, offset backing and straight backing. Challenging the first day, but most of us are getting the hang of it. Knowing when to kill the angle or increase angle is the tricky part. We have a short week next week due to Presidnets Day, but the good thing is we finally get to hit the road and do some driving. We have 5 more weeks of school and then the decision on which company to work for starts. May is my first choice so far, then Gordon trucking, both seem to be good companies to work for from what I have read on this site.
Thanks again for all the answers to my questions, now I just need to get out there with my trainer and get busy putting some miles in. Talk to you later. Be safe.

For some reason, I still have issues with that angle thing on backing lol. Just remember every situation is different. Get Out And Look!!! Screw what the other guys are saying on the CB. I've also noticed, and I'm sure every other driver on here will agree with me, if the back looks easy, it's gonna be hard. If it looks hard, it'll be easy. I swear to you on that one, lol. Also remember it's all about how you set up as well. Don't expect to know everything coming out here. You won't. I've been out here over 2 years and still learning something every day.

I'm going to solo out tomorrow and can't wait. I see post on here, "Enjoy your time with your trainer". That's really tough to do when your so called trainer acts like the whole world revolves around him and his truck and almost constantly acts like a friggin drill instructor no matter what the question is. Trucking or not. Bottom line is I still and will have alot of questions after soloing and getting my own truck and really don't care to contact him to be interigated why I don't know the answer. He's suppose to be a trainer and an avenue for questions. If you don't mind helping out a newbie with questions, please PM your contact info to me. Thank you in advance for you consideration.

    Good Luck BrimyFiveEight.

Hope everything goes good for you on your first solo run. We finally got to drive out on the roads today. We went out by the Boise Stage Stop Truck Center and drove several miles up and down the roads practicing our double-clutching, up and down the gears. This was our first day out driving in school, still need practice on down-shifting and getting the RPM and road speed right before the shift. We have about 4 weeks left and will start longer road trips soon.

Keep us posted on your adventure and how your first trip went.
    Be safe.

Well it's official, I am a May Truck Driver. Finished day 3 of orientation today and was told my trainer is en-route to the Payette area for hometime and then we head out Mon/Tues. Everyone at May has been great through this whole process. I am gonna run the refer/48 states. Anyone have any suggestions as to what a trainee should bring for the first 3 weeks out? other than the obvious (clothes and toiletries) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Be safe out there.
