I hope I'm in the right category! I'm trying to figure out what's causing this weird smell that comes and goes in my cab around the dashboard area behind the steering wheel. I own a 2004 Western Star, and for the past few days (off and on), there has been this faint woody, oily smell. No idiot lights are on, and the truck is running fine. When I open the hood, I can't smell it, only in the cab. I don't see anything leaking. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? I hope it's not another big repair bill coming my way. Thanks!
What's that weird smell?

Sounds like it may be time for a new pair of boots.
Big Don Thanks this. -
LOL!
Sound like you need to at least open up the dash and look around for anything getting hot and melting. Usually at connectors. Sometimes mice or other rodents get in there and make nests and chew on the wiring. -
I know this is probably a dumb question, but I'm going with it anyhow: You haven't shampooed your carpets recently have you?
-
maybe a tiny leak at the oil psi gauge ?
-
if you have liquid gauges one may be leaking also check your wires
-
does this smell comes when you have heat on, and blower fan on? do check your cab air filter.
-
Your heater core might be weeping. That usually has a acidic smell.
