Well here I am posting Swift in favorite trucking company forum. Before all of the nay sayers start dissing me just here me out.

I had a real hard time getting back into trucking because Im a newbe with a negative item on my DAC. Only companies that would hire me was Swift and CR England. I chose Swift because I just didnt want to pay $1500 for a refresher and team for 100 days with crap pay.

Swift oreintation was nice. Although we didnt get paid for it, they fed us and put us in a hotel. The hotel was at the DaysInn and it had clean rooms and continental breakfast. During oreintation they gave us lunch. Dinner was on us.

Day one was paper work DOT physical and roadtest for experienced drivers only. Thats right. Road test was only given to people who didnt need a mentor. I havent been in a truck in over a year and still didnt have to take a road test.

Day two learn to log, maps, qualcomm, company policy, usual stuff.

Day three, last day. more videos and learning Swift policies. And find out when our mentors will be here.
All in All my experience with Swift has been good. Will report back when im with the mentor.

    bikegoon Thanks this.

Im glad you got a job. Sometimes that is the hardest part. But you havent really experienced what a company is really about until you are the road with them for few months.

GL, I hope it works well for you.

    Shawn,
How long have u been out of trucking? I have been looking for a way to get back into the industry with minimal cost and swift may have to be an option for at least six months and then look at other companies after getting the experience. What did your road test consist of? Did you get assigned a truck after all the paper work was done or do you have to go out with a mentor?

well I took a refresher course in the summer of 09. and before that i only had 2months otr experience. i didnt have to take a roadtest because im going out with a mentor for 6 weeks. If I had experience then i would have to take a road test. And none of the experienced drivers got their own truck, they had to go with mentors for 5 days then get a truck.

I have been driving almost 4 years now and learned this about the industry. If it is a company and they are in the trucking bussiness they are a bunch of dirty buggers> If you are standing in the way of them making a buck they are going to run right over you. It is as simple is that there. I really believe Swift gets such a bad rap because they are so big. They are no better or no worse than the rest of them.

Well they were not that experienced. They had under a year. One Guy had over a year and he got his own truck

I think it also depends on how recent your experience is as well.
