This is what I was attempting to point out! (I also got the same answer when I called for this information)

Diesel Bear where are you when we need you?

    DO THE PTI!
    Do it properly
Part of the PTI is to fill out the inspection report that should be in the glove box AND on your log sheet.
    SIGN them both
Report any violations to your company, hopefully on a satellite or in text.
They WILL get back to you!
Most of the time it's going to be the infamous
"RUN WITH IT. WE'LL COVER IT" crapola which for some reason never happens!
Let's remember that, yes, you might get the points BUT so does that company! And as pointed out you did what you were supposed to do by law and filled out the proper form, reported it to the company BUT you didn't do as the FMCSA said and ..........

    Drove that truck!

Again....SCREW THAT DISPATCHER, LM, SAFETY PERSON AND OWNER!
You have the key in your hand! It's now YOUR record and wallet that's going to get hit and NOT from BFI if they told you to "run with a DOT reportable problem" on that truck!
YOU now get points AND just might get to foot the fine that's given!
There is NOT a single company out there worth you taking the fall for their POS equipment!

It's come down to where you the driver is the one holding the bag when the crapola hits the fan, the company takes back seat.
Is driving a truck with a problem worth it? If your job is that important then 'run with it" but I do hope you're a good gambler as that's what you are doing!
    Gambling that
    1) the "problem" doesn't break and kill someone or hurt them or yourself.
    2) you might make it to the yard sometime this year to get it fixed before it becomes a bigger problem.

Cover your arse with filled out, dated and signed PTI reports. One on your log and one in the dash for the next driver to check before he starts his PTI to see if prior problems have been addressed!

CSA is going to be on your side and hurt the company if YOU follow the rules!
Let BFI think not fixing trucks is a good business practice!
When the fines are more than the repairs those college kids will figure it out!

Has anyone seen Diesel Bear lately? I can't get a hit on his user name!

My deduction is that either someone in management was posting BS about how great it was, saw my post, and since several people in management knew my truck had exhaust leaking into the cab, the safety guy called me and asked if I was "ronin". Why, yes I am.

You know, it's all good - this company convinced me that we don't much amount to a hill of beans, and personally, if I can't get SOME respect, I'll withdraw from the job.

Sorry for the delay. Honestly I do not know the answer to the question that if a driver request an inspection that the violations do not affect that driver. From what I see on a day to day basis and how inpsections are recorded, I would think any and all violations would affect the driver and the carrier. So much has changed with CSA that I have no clue with the technicalities that FMCSA might possibly do. There is no block on the inspection report that we check that says the driver requested an inspection. Personally I do not do an inspection when a carrier comes in and shops for an inspection. What I have seen in the past is a crappy carrier who has a crappy rating. Carrier gets his best piece of equipment and goes from scale house to scale house begging for a level I inspection. Meanwhile, his junk is running down the road. The carrier's thinking is if my junk gets stopped and placed out of service, at least I have this many "Good" inspections that will off set the bad. :biggrin_25521:

i seen a comment about freedom of speech but in fact (i know i hate saying this) when u work for a company on the clock or off you rep that company and if they feel u are not looking pretty for that said company they can let u go. i have a friend who was working for a company and he liked porn alot and someone found his screen name and it was the same for company log in they watched him and the first time he posted on a video they let him go for making the company look bad.

this country is free....lol no this country is full of loop holes. i love thee usa but some of these laws need to be tossed out people with money pushed them and they only help them but what about us the working class that cant even get our foot in the door..just a shame

What does this have to do with freedom? He wasn't put in jail, he lost a job. In most states you don't need a reason to let someone go. You'll probably have to pay unemployment if you don't have a reason, but you don't need one. Freedom doesn't mean there wont be consequences for your actions.

"Freedom doesn't mean there wont be consequences for your actions."

I really like that statement. A college professor of mine says the freedom of speech allows you to yell and raise your fist in the air, but it stops just before your fist would contact someone's face.

Today is my last day - it's turned into a comedy of errors with these folks - I really don't see how they stay in business. The trucking industry is pretty simple - we take a truck and pick up stuff at point A, take it to Point B and deliver it - these guys can screw it up five ways to Sunday, while running crap equipment, and having internal office drama. Sheesh.

To me it doesnt seem like a good sign when the new policies such as CSA are confusing enough that even the people that have to enforce them are not completely sure how some of it works for sure. Thats not a knock on Dieselbear at all. It just sucks that they have made the job so much more complicated for both sides of the road.
