[You are done sulking. Suck it up and go get a better job by learning the mistakes of this one.[/QUOTE]
Ya well...I've decided to get the hell out of trucking alltogether. To many hours of sittin on my butt in one spot for TOO dammed long, chewing gum and eatin junk food and gettin fat while driving down the road, then eatin ....crappy and REAL EXPENSIVE food at every frickin truck stop, Then goin back to a truck that only had am/fm radio to listen to at night, only to find that there is no talk shows or anything inteligent on it to listen too, then the long WEEKS away from home, and then when I did get some time off well then it was usually only a day and a half in the middle of nowhere AND at a truck stop and NOT at my house where my car hobbies where. Then while driving, having to worry about whether or not the dot are going to give ME aticket for something that's wrong with SOMEONE ELSES TRUCK when it get's an inspection. You guys can have it. I tried dude....I mean I tried HARD to make this thing work. I NEVER EVER EVER frickin EVER saw any "good" amounts of money made doing what I was doing. I'm done....think I'll go to school now and learn something that will make me 25 bucks or more an hour. Say what you want about trucking.....but I did it. It sucked. The end. for real.
Boss forced logbook voilations, then fired me.

I guess that might be a fact if you don't have much of a case in the first place.
I used the Michigan Dept of Labor on two cases recently (during the past 10 years) and got the money that was owed to me. The ONLY time I was forced to use the Courts was in Louisiana, which had good "labor" laws, but didn't have any "enforcement" (of Labor) laws. -
- It isn't the State's responsibility to update the map making companies, in fact, many times they (companies) only "up-date" when there is a serious change, like a new road built, or an exit change. (Rest area's aren't considered an "exit").
- It is the DRIVER's responsibility to know and obey ALL laws, Federal State and Local. Most states DO NOT ALLOW ramp parking, marked or not. So, it is YOUR fault you got the ticket, NOT the State of Louisiana.
- You MUST update your log-book at EVERY "change-of-status". That means if you go from "DRIVING" to "SLEEPER BERTH", you MUST update your log book at the TIME of the change of duty.

No worries. It's not like this industry is suffering from a shortage of people who don't like to be responsible for themselves and then when something goes wrong, it's never their fault. "My boss said I had to.....The customer made me......That 4-wheeler didn't.....The truckstops have crappy food, so that's why I'm fat.....That cop was just pickin' on me!" Blah-blah-blah......hear it all the time.
Good luck to you in your future endeavors.Pur48Ted Thanks this. -
I really sort of glanced through this, but--end of story until the over the road truck driver is reclassified, (not under migrant farm worker) I really don't know if labor law is really going to work. DOT has given each and every driver a tool. Log it like you run it!! NO ONE can make you do anything unless you want to!! That owner knows it to. If you are a male, you may have to grow a set, and if you are a female-the same applies--Look at the big picture--who suffers??!! Ain't the owner, he/she will replace you, when you f'up. Keep it on the straight and narrow, they will back down, because their ### is at risk also.

I can understand, though, after you've travelled, incurred expenses and time, commiteed to an employer, moved all your gear into a truck... and for some of us that's a significant move... only to find out that 3 days in the boss expects you to jikky your logbook and stuff...
Everyone says "why not just quit"? Or refuse? (and get fired, of course, since most employers that will encourage illegal logging won't give a rat's butt about telling the truth on your DAC)... Just saying that I can understand the helpless feeling of quitting and having to do all that stuff again, hoping the next company will work out better.
That said, trip planning and a vehicle inspection played a significant role here. If the OP wants to throw a tantrum here and take his ball and go home, that's his decision to make..BUT, he should first take responsibility for everything that was under his control and THEN decide if.. he had planned better... and had inspected the vehicle before picking up, being able to call the boss and say "this car has damage", thereby relieving himself and his boss from responsibility... also killing the pay issue with the large deduction... how would this scenario have turned out?panhandlepat and Injun Thank this. -
Hey, trucking just is NOT for everyone. So go ahead and get out of it and get on with your life. I'm sure you will find something that works out better for you.
or not. . .Injun and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
EXACTLY Right Injun, i call it the "I'm sorry he did it" theory. It's "actually" called "grow a set" and man up and take responsibility for your own actions.Injun Thanks this. -
Trucking claims another another newbie.....grow a pair...no body makes me do nothing....you just have to stand up for yourself and not let somebody scare you into something
