Thanks for the info guys. I've worked with three unions, the IAM, AMFA, and the IBEW right now. There certainly are alot of problems with union for sure, and I've also worked non union where the employee takes advantage of the fact that you have to go it alone with them. My wife was with the UAW and lost her job while they sat back and basically did nothing. Unions could be doing alot better or they would not be losing membership to the tune of about 3% a year. Thanks again all. Does any one have any info on Yellow Freight?

Don't forget Overnite, R&L, and Estes. They are pretty large outfits too.

You didn't just say that with a straight face--er, keyboard. If I were that useless, I'd kill myself.

I was a Teamster for a little while, and the union did nothing but take our money and grab their ankles whenever management said, "bend over." Our pay scale topped out at < $10/hr, they took away our lunch break and our benefits sucked. I figured if I needed an organization to take my money and not do anything for me, I always had the government.
Later, when I started driving and going to union warehouses, I couldn't believe what a bunch of lazy, unmotivated, ill-mannered slackers worked there. They made > $20/hr to take a 3hr break every fifteen minutes, nothing was ever done right or on time, and gods forbid you ask them a simple question--they'd about rip your head off.
Perhaps there's still some benefit to unions--they were needed once, I think. Now, for the most part, they're just a way for the unproductive and incompetent to make money for doing anything but working. That's the way I see it.

Well, the biggest problem with the unions is that they have strayed away from what they did best, and involved themselves too deeply in wage and compensation issues that were best left up to the company.
A union's main purpose in my opinion is to prevent unfair disciplinary action and unjust firings. Now they have since taken to strangling the company. Look what happened to General Motors.
