    Excellent point!
If you're gonna go broke, you may as stay home.

Too bad the Bank has initiated foreclosure proceedings and I'm losing the house!!!

    Please...By all means, Stay Home!

If ya don't have any business sense and don't know any better than to run for free (which is what a lot of stupid people do in times like these)....Just stay home and go broke there!

The rest of us that know how to run a business will be fine without you!

Truer words were never spoken. Anyone can run about any business when times are fat. But when it gets tight the ones who were never qualified stand out quickly. Always working for nothing to pay for the last load or job. Then it all comes down and they are out of business. Kind of like wild fire. Looks bad-but is really necessary from time to time. Those that are left standing are stronger and in position to make more than they ever thought. Buy equipment that is reliable and affordable. Take care of it and pay it off as soon as you can. If no one will pay you a decent rate then you can park it and not have to worry about the repo man. And you have to sell yourself. No one else is going to. Got to learn to teach the cust why you are worth that little extra per mile vs the cheap skates/.

Hey big duker i have to say i agree with your post. I would never haul cheap frieght and if it was friday and only 700 miles home i would always deadhead home hopefully when fuel hits 5.oo per gallon all of these fly by night companies will go broke so i can make more money i have been off the road for almost 16 months in the last 3 years and it is time to go trailer trucking again...

This "purge and cleanse" is exactly what our industry needs, however I'm a little concerned that we will lose alot of good companies and independents and not nearly enough of the bad companies and independents. The reckless, irresponsible, and unethical operations will just cut a few more corners on safety and driver pay/benefits to compensate for the increase in fuel prices.
We've all seen this in the past. There is no reason to expect a change in this sort of behavior now.
