Question for you Wel pros. I'm gonna do my schooling at Ridge Career Center in Winter Haven, Florida. Wel has a location a few blocks away from my school. Do you guys take student graduates from this school? Thanks.

Hi Trucker Chris,
I saw your response regarding Wel. I saw where they are hiring out of the Siloam terminal. I was wondering if you could please tell me about Wel and working from their Siloam terminal (where do you run, home time, how you like, etc.). I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks! -
I'll be at orentation on the 17th. What do i need to expect? And what type of trucks do they give nebee's. Also what i need to bring? Also does this mean i'm hired? No medical problems

First off...I've gotten a lot of good information on this forum. Thanks to all who've contributed.
my issue....
I couldn't believe it when I first heard so maybe some of you can set me straight on this....am I missing something?
I'm a CDL grad lookin' for employment. After contacting a recruiter for Wel Companies, I was informed that all "students" upon orientation have to agree/sign a promissory note. This note is an agreement whereby Wel will deduct $50 per week (not sure if this is pre-tax) for 6 months.
If you leave Wel prior to the first six months for ANY reason, you forfeit ALL of what you've paid in to serve as tuition for their OTR training.
If you are still employed after six months, you receive the amount paid in. The total amounts to approx. $1200.00 (4wk/per month X 6 months x $50.00)
First of all your working for low wages for 6 months then the company takes $50 a week from your paycheck? Is this right? Are other companies doing this and I being a rookie just don't know it yet?
Sounds to me like their turnover rate is so bad, they have to "force" the drivers to stay with them OR some "bean counter" in DePere has flipped out! Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Pop Thanks this. -
I'm a trainer and that is the first I have heard of that. But I will check into it and let you know for sure. Who would want to do that? I'll let you know.

Thanks Ice...
Any light you could shed on this would be appreciated.
I await your word.
