I was going to post this in the Peterbilt section but it doesn't seem to get as much traffic?

Anyways, I have a 2006 387 and just got it 2 weeks ago. My question is about the resonator/cat/muffler...whatever u call it mounted under the cab. I have been told that by removing this, you will gain about .2mpg? Is there any truth to that from 1st hand experience, not what you have "heard" like I did :biggrin_2559:

I like the quietness of the truck, but if it can gain me any MPG then consider it gone. I pull empty tanks and it has dual stacks with mufflers already on them, so i figure removing it wouldn't hurt, but it is nice and quiet and I like that going from my 8" straights on my last rig......

Then again, I'm already getting 7.85mpg and not sure the extra .2mpg is even worth the hassle?

Mine's an '04 and I don't believe I have that piece of equipment. Been a while since I checked the exhaust out completely (I know...my bad).
7.85 is nothing at all to sneeze at though!

Do you have an ACERT motor? And if so, do you have duals?

This is located under the bunk and is quite massive (no it's not a regen system)

I think it is part of the CAT "emissions" crap they put on here. SOmeone told me they put it on ACERT trucks to pass for the '04 emissions w/o going EGR, but in realitey, the ACERT is an EGR motor anyways :biggrin_2557:

I have an 06 387 with a 475 cat. I pulled off my catalytic converter. Didnt really help much, minimal at best. But then again I'm only getting 5.2 mpg so anything will help. As far as noise, not a whole lot louder until you use the Jake. Then it sounds pretty cool!

Yikes. The worst I could do with an 06 387 with an ACCERT under the hood was 6.3, but usually ran around 6.8 at 80,000lbs even though the truck was falling apart, and the transmission wasn't too good about making its mind up over whether or not 8th gear would work.
