When did 25% become acceptable? Years ago 5% with advance, 10% without was the norm. 25% is based on brokers greed and O/Os stupidity.Working Class Patriot Thanks this.

Those days are gone? GOOD! -
Thank you! I've got a brokers license and always laugh when drivers act like the broker is making $1000 on every load. We haven't even used the license in years because it's not worth the time. 40 phone calls about one load, doing the paperwork for it, hoping the steering wheel holder can actually get it there when they said, just to make 5% like some think you should.......ha dream on.
I agree, some think I'm stupid when I don't really care when fuel goes up. Sometimes $5 per gallon for a few months would be great to weed out the bottom feeders. One O/O I basically bid against is always cheaper than me he cuts his rate everytime the wind blows just trying to stay busy. No thanks, I'll work 3 days for the higher rate and let him run his wheels off for the lower rate 5 days a week.
um......no! Why is it that people just HATE it when someone is doing better than them? Who cares if the broker makes 25%? I would rather things be so booming so good that the rates were high enough that both me and the broker can make money. Way better than things being so cheap that we have to work on VERY small margins. -
I haul for several brokers and have a good relationship with all of them. When they offer me a load, the rate they quote me is the rate I'll be paid. I get it all. What they keep is of no real interest to me because no one is forcing me to take the load. If I feel the load is profitable and takes me where I want to go, I accept it,otherwise I pass. It works for me and I honestly don't care how much they are making as long as I'm happy with what I'm making. Seems pretty simple to me...if this is the wrong attitude to have, please enlighten me.

Thank you! Everyone always thinks they're being cheated because someone might be making some money off them. I make money, they make money and we all live happily ever after.
5%? Haha, so anyone believes a broker wants to deal with you, the shipper, insurance among other operating expences for 5%? On an $800 load that's $40.00, I'm not getting out of bed for $40.

i dont hate it at all.... its turn about fairplay. there was a day when brokers earned their bad rep, now some brokers cry because of their slim margin? hows that feel? a whinning broker today sounds like a whinning OO from the 90s. i like to see people do good, but i also like it when darwinism resets the pecking order.
-
It's not that an O/O minds a broker making money off them as long as it's a fair cut.The O/O has expences too, tags, ins, fuel, maint, taxes. If your $800 load is going 800 miles, after your $40.00 and $592.00 for fuel, the O/O has $168.00 for loading, driving 12hrs. and unloading. You're not getting out of bed for $40.00,are you only loading one truck per day?I'm only hauling one load.
Native Dancer and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
Take a look their info. It says it's a truckers wife. I think she is just trying to understand how it works but I AGREE 100%...If you accept that rate, it was enough to make you happy...if not argue for more! -
Find me a single broker that follows this and I will pay for your liftime OOIDA membership ( if you arent one ) Yeah there are laws for alot of things but very few are followed. Here goto dumblaws.com and entertain your self.
Its quite entertaing to see some one throw a text book law at you that will not get you any response but might also black list you from a good broker! Oh yes I did, I did say a good broker.
Most of people are happy to see another person drowning.
