All truckers unite april1,2011 shut em down

800-1200 a week isnt a lot of money this day and age.....so yeah unless you want to live in subpar conditions this kind of money is just enough to get by on.......where have you been the last 20 years? you cant live on 600 dollar paychecks or even 800-1200 unless you live in a poor state

 

i agree and i too am a proud OOIDA member as well as my wife.

 

I have heard this call (for a strike) for the 30 years I have been in this industry and so far they all have fizzled. I can understand that someone cannot afford to shut down completely but I have often wondered why we as an industry let states like California do what ever the hell they want to to us? Why have we not organized a one state at a time boycott to change things? that gives you 47 other states to run (excluding Alaska) who could not do that? and I say start with California! make them roll back their emissions laws, 55 mph law, the right lane only restriction and other BS laws, if we quit going in there they would be begging us to come back, time it around spring and summer and they would roll over quick, but we as an industry have never stuck together so we have to put up with it. Nothings changed.

 

I can't believe that you would think that $40-$60,000/yr is subpar. Surely you are kidding? That is a good living by most any standards. If you can't do more than get by on that much money then you are spending way too much. You need to learn how to budget your money and use some restraint when it comes to buying things. If you are making that much money and are broke or just getting by, then there is something wrong. There are some people who can live well on $600/wk or less and still save money. There are some people who will always be broke or living from paycheck to paycheck no matter how much money they earn.

 

We can do quite well on that kind of money! Then again, I don't have massive car payments, don't have to have all the latest toys, etc. It's called living within one's means, and too many people don't seem to be able to do that.

 

In my humble opinion, not enough truck drivers will strike to make a difference, unfortunately. I am new but I think there have been many changes in this industry in the last 10 yrs.... The system has become very strong, and will continue to grow. The "population" of drivers is way too diverse and ununited. Most drivers are either ignorant or don't care or don't understand or all the above. Little bit by little bit we all get used to whatever the system tells us to do or we quit and new drivers come in and accept whatever... Just wait till Mexican drivers start rolling in this country freely and illegals get their amnesty. Our wages will go way down, we will be working for peanuts and with all the control the system will have, we will be like slaves.... and if we quit, there will be many others eager to take our places... I am not very confident in my future as a truck driver as I am not very confident in the future of America....

I could be wrong, but I don’t see Americans revolting against the system in this country… By system I mean the powerful regime that is controlling us. We became too complacent… It seems to me that more and more people want the system to take care of them and decide for them. And they will do whatever the system tells them… Those of us who don’t like this state of affairs are either minority or not willing to fight it… See these protests and rallies between those who want more government interference in their lives and those who don’t. Besides a big division between them, for each one asking for more freedom and liberty, there are hundreds demanding more “help” from the government.
Militias?? Yeah, right… I don’t think that would succeed… America is becoming a stupid nation. Like you said, while we argue among ourselves, the powerful continue to deceive us and become more powerful. We are becoming all entangled in a huge spider web till we are numb and under their absolute control. We are losing our freedoms, our rights… This nation is going the wrong way. We are becoming like the European socialists. And all this has been happening in such a way for such a long time that I wonder if we will ever be able to change it...

 

There is just way to much appathy in our country and among Truckers. Listen on the CB. Look out your windshields. Look how truck drivers treat each other on the road. Look through this forum. There are a few that seem to be able to open minded and a few that have tunnel vision. Its there way or no way at all. I too have heard of truckers striking but it NEVER happens. It has not happened since the 30s. And it wont happen until people can put their differences aside long enough to pull together on one thing. Some folks out there get it. With out us the country will stop. They also realize that #### rolls down hill. The more it costs us to get the products there the more they as consumers have to pay. So if it WILL EVER WORK ALL TRUCKERS WILL HAVE TO SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH put aside their differences and just do it for everyone's sake. Just my opinion on the matter. this country is not doing the Truck driver a service. Just look at the treatment we get. Crazy stupid laws are on the books regulating everything from mouthwash to the sheets you can put on your bunk. Come on guys Lets get our #### together and unite. That also includes the new citizen drivers too.

i no I have not started out there solo yet but like I said before I have been around the business for 20+ years and not completely oblivious to whats going on.
