The bunk heaters are only in the newer trucks. I have an 06 Freightliner. The truck doesn't shut off unless I turn it off. I've been sitting a lot the past few days and when I would have the sun coming in, the truck was off. But once that sun went down the truck came on and idled all night long. My new FM hasn't said a word about my idling time.

try pushing the clutch in and releasing or pulling on the trailer brake handle, that might make your truck override the 5 minute shutdown setting, at least it did when i had a werner truck

I slip seat and a lot of trucks we have shut off after 5 minutes unless you set the cruise and idle them up a little. Never had one programmed to shut off if idled up. Doesn't mean yours isn't programmed to shut off, just check and see if that isn't the case. I don't know everything and probably never will.

With USX, the trucks (at least the newer ones) will only idle for five minutes unless the outside temp is below 28 or above 70 degrees. Idling up with the cruise does override the idle shut off on my truck.

We were notified last week that the 2600 new trucks they ordered are all coming in with an ambient temp controlled 5 min idle shutdown. FYAThat coming from President John White :biggrin_25524:

28 is too low... drivers could freeze to death. before then.

Those are the limits for the trucks with the bunk heaters. I have a brand new 2012 Cascadia and I can override the idle shut off with the cruise control if needed.

True I forgot you had a new truck.. The bunk heater is ok. I had one in my lease truck, but there is still the issue of air conditioning. 80 is way too high for the top end. You typically need AC long before that. Try sitting at the TA in Dallas in 75 degree weather trying to sleep with the sun shining and the windows closed. Even at night 75 can get warm with no air flow, many times I have awakened in a sweat. And, with the reputation of the Dallas TA, I will not leave my windows down there at any time, or anywhere else for that matter. Of course there are two of you so one could sit up and pull guard duty while the other sleeps. LOL

True, that is why I am happy USX now allows idle at 70+. Also, if you bring a dog, all rules are off as the government cares much more about your pets comfort than it does yours
