Whats the difference between twic and sea-link? Nothing same aspect you show the card you go in, and wait a huge line then you have to find a chassis, then look for your load (container) again wait maybe a hour maybe 2 maybe the whole day. Plus by making you get a twic card it is basically force dispatch why do I have to get a twic waste my money, my time to fill out paper work, to get something I necessarily don't need?
What are you a newbie ridgerunner? ( no disrespect ) Why would you lie about getting a twic then going in and out of ports like it's done in 10 minutes?
For 3 years I ran nothing but ports, I quit because of it.
Anyways I am not here to debate why I choose to not go into ports that's my choice, and respect it, companies should respect others choices, if you like the ports then more power to you, if you like the force dispatches then more power to you ''but'' that's not my cup of tea. Why do compnaies like TMC, PGT and Maverick have to force you to get a twic, or you don't get hired? There are people working for each of those companies that still does not have their twic and passport and continue to move along, But now the new rule for newbies entering these companies it is mandatory to get a twic? Instead of it beign a choice thats just wrong, and yes I rebel against that. Call me old fashion.
Why did this company I got hired on-to didn't procrastinate me to get a twic? yet they run ports but they have drivers that are willing to do it, and its a small company compared to maverick.
Lets do this scenario you have to get a passport or show a receipt that you have applied for one to work for Maverick ''OK'' I went ahead did the app ordered my passport, and passcard. I go for orientation I make a mistake or something that maverick doesn't like because of their strict ways, and sends me home does not pay a cent for my passport or twic, and I get sent home? I was looking forward to make some money to compensate the loss from getting those documents.......... see where this goes it's just plain retarded IMOH

I just read all the twic laws, even with my felony I should have no problem getting one if I need it being my felony is 21 years old.
-
you should get it if you like the ports, more power to you. I mean I am not knocking anyone's judgment but others shouldn't knock mine either.
I went all out and got a passport to go work for maverick, the first time I spoke to the recruiter she said that it's not necessary to get a twic it's your choice ok ''I got hit upside the head with her BS'' so I went ahead and spent 300 on the passport, and passcard. Now I call again to tell her I'm good lets get the application processed, I have my receipt ready to show you I have applied for my documents, she states on the phone conversation ''you also have to get your twic'' I just hung up. I wasted 300 dollars because she was not straight forward with the answer to my question basically misleading me. Took food out my mouth, and gas from my car or other useful necessities that i could have used those 300 ''bucks'' forLast edited: Mar 8, 2011

And for the past 2 years (since getting my TWIC, I've been driving just a little longer than that)...I have went in and out of ports in about that length of time, not including the time I spent tarping and stuff...I'm fast, but I'm not that fast.
I have had to wait in the line of trucks getting loaded or unloaded...but NEVER, in the past 2 years, have I had to wait in line to get in the port itself...not 1 single time...and that is not a lie.
I still don't care for ports...mainly due to their locations (that mess of traffic that starts anywhere north of Richmond along the east coast, same for Louisiana).
It has been just like I said...drive up, show the TWIC, go on in and get loaded...no fuss at all getting in the gate. -
See...I'm just the opposite...I'll take the TWIC, and the ports...but Canada can (and will) do without freight if it is left up to me to haul it up there.
Spent my whole first year fighting that mess up there (Toronto and Montrael...worst rush hours I've ever seen...ANYWHERE)....it took me over 2 hours to get from Guelph, ON to Etobicoke, ON...and its not more than 30 or 40 miles, I forget exactly what now. And thats just one example...there are MANY! -
Like I said the company shouldn't force drivers to get twic cards since there is drivers like yourself that like the job so it should be appointed to specific drivers that like going to ports, not forcing the driver to take the job if not your fired that's kind of played out already a lot of companies are doing away with that forcing BS. I guess maverick is new to the twic game so they think everyone should get it which I just don't like, same goes for PGT and TMC I herd TMC is worst now you have to get your tankers hazmat twic and passport lmfao you can find a local job and do away with all that crap.

Well you have to look at from mavericks side to, if a driver is say dropping a flatbed load somewhere say 30 miles from a port and theres nothing to load him back up with within a days drive somewhere except the port, its much easier for them to say go here to this port right down the road and grab this.
I understand your comments too, I worked for robbins motor out of eddystone and used to go in and out of ports from VA to NYC all the time (before the twic days and 9-11) with no problems at all.
Atleast I know from reading the rules if I do need one I should be able to get one no problem. And I hear ya, I personally could care less about going into Canada but again.... -
So what are you crying about? no one here is telling you not to get your twic, or passport or any other necessary documents to perform your job with the new company. If anything I was trying to give you some hope. Good luck on your journey
If you don't get the job don't be a cry baby just move along and find something else. Maveirck is not the last hope in this world.

i dont know but whatever it was it seemed to happen to everyone else that hired on with me i guess there was about 30 of us......and there are only 2 left working there and 1 called me today and said he was leaving. -
lmao.......800 dollars a week is good money now days.....wow you must be a newbie yourself with that stupid remark.....i was bringing that home in 98....but you good dedicated maverick die hards keep trying to impress all these guys with all of your talk about how good maverick is and when they get started and see how it really is then they will know....after they sit at mac-steel for 12 to 16 hours and dont get any detention because maverick says they are too important a customer to charge detention lol and after 14 years i know plenty........i got the hell away from there so i could make a living and i am still flatbedding and i dont sit.....ever,hell ever since i left there i havent had a check under 900 bring home.....but yall keep living in your fantasy land where yall think maverick is the best and yall keep telling each other that if it suits ya but these guys starting out dont know any better and yall should be ashamed of yourselves for trying to convince them that sitting around and waiting on customers is normal its not and neither is 1500 to 2000 miles a week but whatever if they believe it then more power to them and let me guess.....the reason for the absurdly high turn over rate there is all the fault of the drivers and nothing to do with maverick right? give me a break
