I doubt they will let you go, and even if they do there are a lot better companies out there!

Could be the man upstairs is making YOU man up, again. I know it wont sit well with you, but quitting smoking at 30 was the best thing I ever did for myself.
Maybe you can try it too.
It's lots better then getting old and sick like lots of smokers get, when they are my age now. I'd be at death's door right now, if I didn't quit smoking two packs a day, and that is the truth.
Yeah, its hard as hell to quit, but it will pass away, in time.
Just a few thoughts and prayers coming your way, Driver.
Best of luck to you, no matter what you decide to do!Last edited by a moderator: Mar 11, 2011

Relax a bit, you're putting way too much stress on yourself and that isn't good for you. You've been through the worst of it already and you're on the home stretch. Just go to the person in charge and tell them that you really want to do the best possible for them and you're so close and all.
Most important, you've got to set the other stuff aside. I know that's hard, but it's part of the lifestyle you've chosen. A trucker, especially OTR, is always dealing with missing a big part of the "normal" life. You'll always be hundreds of miles away when stuff happens. It's just not possible for you to always "be there" for family and friends. If you dwell on that it'll eat you up. This is what us "old guys" keep telling you "newbies... trucking is tough.
Look, I'm not trying to push anything on you, but when the pressures get too much find you one of the Trucker's Chapels. They'll listen to you and they don't care if you break down and cry. They've heard it all before and they're good people. You'd be surprised how much it helps to have someone take your hand and pray for you. Doesn't cost you a thing. You aren't alone out there.
Now get you some sleep.Ducks Thanks this. -
just quit and go back home and go to work in an industry that does not involve any travel...you cannot hack it, pure, plain and simple...
you HAD A CHANCE to go with another trainer, and you blew it. do not give me the "stressful" speech, as it does not work for me.
quit now while you still can and get away from trucking, as no one will hire you once you leave werner and tell the new employer why you did.
you cannot hack life away from home, hell, you had to move in with another family, why..?? for healing...??? one can "heal" living in his own place. seems to me you NEED closeness........and cannot do things on your own, like living alone. how you gonna survive life on the road in a tiny sleeper...??? all alone...???
i think some where's along the line, those apron strings need to be cut, and at the age of 30 (you say) they are still attached.
get out of trucking....you just ain't gonna make it.
go to school and learn cream puff baking instead.
g'bye...... -
He can't hack it and should go home because he is a 20 year smoker and doesn't want to train with a non-smoker? What is wrong with you?
leannamarie Thanks this. -
Seems like you have two choices here:
1. Quit. Go home and lick your wounds. Spend time with your second family and move on, blah blah blah....
or...
2. Man up, put your big boy britches on, go with the second trainer, dont smoke in his/her truck, chew some gum, eat tic tacs, chew on a straw...whatever keeps you from smoking in the truck....THEN when you stop for fuel...pee break....10hr break....get out, go have a smoke...or a whole pack for that matter, get back in the truck and hit the road.
What happens when your out solo trucking down the road, out in the middle of nowhere and you dont have anymore smokes?!?! Whatyado then?
Drive safe, Happy Motoring. -
OP, did you really start smoking at the age of 10? ####! That can't be good.
By the way, smokers have an odor, in their clothes, hair, possessions. Non smokers can smell it and don't want anyone smoking at all if they're sharing the close confines of a truck. Read complaints of non smokers who get placed in a formerly smoking truck.
I am a smoker. I'm not downing the habit. Looking at breaking it before I get COPD~Wargames Thanks this. -
You only have two choices...give it up, or haing tough and eventually become a solo driver. Which one is it going to be?
