Since I have to pull the head on my 60S i will be in need of more info than I should be asking about on this site. I checked flebay and all manuals were CDs. Do they make a paper manual and where is the best place to get one? Thanks in advance.

You are the MAN!!! Can't thank you enough for going to the trouble to send that over. :biggrin_25514:This should get me on the way. I only had a few hours to hit it today, got everything stripped off through the valve cover. The rocker arm rollers show some minor pitting in a line around the middle, cam also shows some minor pitting. I am guessing that this is not "normal" wear. Could see some of the old buttons had been replaced with new, but most of the ones I could see were the old style. Exhaust manifold was dry and no slobbering out the exhaust leads me to think the pistons are not too bad. Can't wait to see what the inside looks like, can I tell if the cyl are down in the block by looking or will I need to measure them?

you will need to measure them. also if you have not drained the coolant, with the rocker arms off pressure check the coolant system and look in intake ports to see if you have any puddling of coolant. you could also pull pan and look around liners and see if you have any coolant leaking from liners. coolant running down inside of liner would be cavatation.

i believe if you look at the inspection part of the cam manual. you will find that pitting is ok. if it was me i would not reuse it. and i would replace all the old style buttons.

I have the radiator off so a pressure check is out of the question now. I put pressure on it the last thing when I was checking and it wouldn't hold. When I tried to start it the next day to move it back just a little the cyl was full of coolant and had engine locked. Lucky it never even tried to turn, sure would have been bad if that cyl would have been down and not full. Getting ready to go pull it off, goiing to pull rockers and injectors before head just in case, half the head is under the cowl so clearance is not great and I don't want to take any chances hitting something. The intake ports looked dry after I pulled the intake but will check again to make sure since I had pressure on it before. If I need a new head/cam; is there a better combination than the DDEC II that is on it. I was planning on replacing all old buttons with the new style while I was into it. Can't believe someone didn't replace them all last time! Also going to have injectors tested, is detroit the best place to test or will any good diesel shop do ok? I like the service manager at the Detroit dealer here, always helpful. Should I let them check head, do they have the stuff to test/ know what to look for/ or do they send them out? Thanks for your help again!!
