Newbie fear

You stop periodically throughout the day. I know I can't go 10 or 11 hours without a visit to the little driver's room (AKA restroom)! You'll stop for fuel . . . for the truck and for you also.

 

if you gotta go you gotta go....no if's and or buts....though remember when you first start off you may be in a governed truck, and companies frown on being late ....the more you keep your door closed the sooner you get to your destination.

A friend of mine told me when I first started..slow and steady wins the race.....you keep that left door shut and keep motoring you'll be there on time everytime.

 

That is all part of trip planning..

 

You drive as long as you feel comfortable, there is no specified min or max...I drink so much coffee I stop every 3-4hrs, plus it gives me a chance to stretch and do a quick walkaround....And not everyone drives the amount of time their allowed, 11 is just the max, not the must...My personal goal is 600+ miles a day or 11hrs, whichever comes first...

 

As with any job, you'll take breaks. Just like working in a factory, you work a couple hours and then you take a break. Trucking is the same way, except it wont be a 10 hour day. Often times its a much longer day, but you will get your rest here and there. Although, most drivers determine when, where and for how long that break time will be. You'll stop for fuel, you'll stop in rest areas to use the bathroom. Youll sit at the shipper/receivers many times for hours on end with nothing to do, but sit and wait.

Personally, I like taking a nap mid day. But, I rarely drive less than 650 miles a day. I have to make up for my nap time somewhere lol...
