JB Hunt has to be the worst company my husband EVER went to! This web site sure has been reassuring that his dicusion to quit was the right one. Anyone know how or when he'll see any of his "escrow" funds. He left the truck a terminal near home - called them a week prior and told them he was going to. Also, he went to Smith Transport out of PA - anyone know anything about this company? Thanks!!

Welcome to the wives of ex-JB Hunt drivers club! All I can say is hound them for the escrow money. Hopefully your husband took pictures of what the truck looked like when he was first assigned it. Advise them that you have no problems obtaining a lawyer if need be.
Smith Transport....as far as I know is a decent company. I know they will run your husband. A friend worked for them and always had good miles. In fact he regrets quitting them.
Hope things will get better for you and your husband quickly.

Thank You! After the mess with JB our family is a lot of stress! My husband hates changing jobs, but if he didn't we would lose our butts and everything around them - I keep praying this is the right company to move to (Smith) - we'll see. Re:pictures - yes we have them, in fact our 5 year old took them - from what I've read though, it doesn't look promising. Thanks again!:biggrin_25517:

My husband was a company driver for them and then tried their lease purchase program (I do not recommend LPP with any company) Anyway they withheld over $3,000.00 in escrow. Plus with the little miles he was getting and all the expenses being charged he ended up with little or no money. One paycheck was 66.00 another was -54.00. Plus they threaten us with an early termination fee of $3,600.00! Well, after many phone calls and emails and telling them I was going to give them negative publicity and going to sue them, we got out of the lease agreement with no penalties, and most of our escrow back. They kept about $1,200.00. My husband decided not to persue the additional money.

Thanks - my hubby was really upset over all this - again, I'll be the one their talking too (they don't realize, he's the calmer one of us). I know what you mean about the checks - with a family and a home, no one can afford to work for JB. We came to close to losing everything. I went on a site to report them - we'll see if anything happens, but I told them the same thing. We defiantely learned a valuable lesson in all this --never again, but it also made us VERY gun shy of the larger companies, we'll see what happens with Smith, he's in orientation with them today and tomarrow - the kids (2 & 5) are excited "daddy's bringing home a black truck"!:biggrin_25524:

I drove for jb, for about 8 days.that was all it took to figure out that I wasn't going to get any miles with them. I wrote down the milage that was on the truck, when i got in it .after 6 days ,I had put 1503 mls on the truck.an average of 250 mls a day.People can not get by on that kind of pay,but alot of these trucking companys don't care about thier drivers.all they care about is the load. And when you quit driving for them, they get mad at you and turn in a bad D.A.C. report on you,and that hurts you when you try to get another job.I guess all trucking companys think, that if it is on a DAC report then it is true.I know that I'll never drive for JB HUNT again

RoadHog, don't think I'm being a smart-###. I'm just trying to set you down a good path here.

Your post is what I'm getting at.

You say your husband went to Smith's Transport, sure. Nothin' wrong on fleeing the burning theater that is JBH. But you're asking us now if anyone knows about Smith's. It's a little late to be finding out about your husband's new outfit.

Some advice, if I may: do your research before your husband makes a move. This is the reason he got into so much trouble at JBH. Trucking companies love those who don't do their research, and of that bunch, they especially love those who will believe anything and everything a recruiter says.

Next time, and I hope there is no next time, as I hope this job works out for you, research potential companies first and THEN move to them if they're good. Hell, I'd just go ahead and assume this new job isn't going to work out and begin researching companies now. You'll have a head start in case the bottom falls out later.

    Good luck.

Not upset at all, we appreciate any opions from all. I just wished we had looked as hard when he was confronted with JBH. We learned a valuable lesson - my husband was out of the trucking world for about 3 years when he went back with a really small company, when JBH started looking at him, he was thrilled just to be back on the road. This time around we tried to do some checking on Smith before he went there. We had posted his resume on-line and he had 23 hits in 2 days! So, he started talking to some of the guys who having been driving and went with Smith. So far he says everything the recruiter says is being done, we'll find out with the first paycheck and miles! Thanks Again...They should make sites like this one available for all drivers, advertise or something, then the bigger companies MIGHT think about what their doing to peoples lives!

I have yet to see a complaint about Smith Transport here. That must say something for them.

Just wanted to let you guys know, so far, everything the recruiter said, Smith is backing - The owner of the company still drives. My husband gets a truck today and heads out (he was getting really antsy!). We're just praying it all works out - 2 growing boys eat alot!! Thanks for the advise and all - We'll let you all know how things are working. I told my husband about this site - he can't wait to get home and check it out for himself!

As far as Smith MACK E-6, I've tried looking everywhere and can't find anything bad about them either. My hubby said out of 7 in his orienation class, 3 are return drivers, he's really been picking their brains as to why they left in the first place, so far, personnel family problems were top of the list - one had a dispatcher problem, but Smith jumped and got him a new dispatch to come back. Still holding out judgement though!

Thanks again...A Very Worried Truckers Wife :biggrin_25520::biggrin_25520::biggrin_25520:
