APU exhaust

if they are run on diesel there is not a concern.

 

Have you ever had one fill up your cab with fumes?

 

I am all for APU's for a variety of reasons--but I can't understand why most(if not all) exhaust to the side--the ones I've looked at have all had the exhausts turned outward--seems to me it would be just as easy to plumb to middle and towards rear.
has anyone seen any different or modified theirs?

 

Hell yeah, they'll kill ya dead. But only if you wrap your lips around the tail pipe and breath deeply while they are running.

 

Mine is mounted to the frame directly under the passenger seat, but it still sits behind the fairings. The exhaust doesn't clear the fairing completely and Im sure some exhaust lingers under the truck.

My unit is a Tripac, and as soon as I get time I will splice the exhaust system adding about 5" of pipe so its clears the truck completely. I might even experiment with a bigger/quieter muffler.

 

Let me know how that goes--adding pipe makes sense to me--but hadn't thought about the xtra muffler--good idea!

 

No, but if you have? then maybe you should either talk to the driver and / or report the truck to the relivant department. here in OZ that would be the RTA (road transport Aurthority) they will inspect the exhaust and make the owner correct the issue. I have had the odd noisy one that needs a new muffler, and I have taken the time to talk to the driver about it. If you dont say anything then how can you expect to have these truck owners get thier #### together and be considerate of others??

 

wow---do you honestly think that carbon monoxide from diesel is better than from gas ?
hell yes that crap will kill you--might take a bit longer , but it will still do the job
apu's should be plumbed into the exhaust stacks to get clear of windows and such

 

I'm recovering from bronchitis and pneumonia directly related to an exhaust leak.. no other systems, no fever, nothing - doctors have already indicated that my lungs look like I'm a 4-pack a day smoker, and I don't smoke. Hell, yes, the stuff can hurt you. I had one truck with a major leak, and the next one had a little less major leak.
