Amen to that!
In a similar situation, I was unemployed for a year. For an entire year, I contacted employers, sent out resumes, filled out job apps, went on interviews...NOTHING. Shortly after I had been out of work for a year, 4 different trucking companies contacted me. I jumped at all 4 opportunities and picked the one that had the least amount of complaints about them. I was incredibly nervous about doing a road test since I hadn't driven a truck all year but once I got back into that cab, everything came back to me, including shifting and backing, which is what I was most worried about.
I'm just happy to have a job again and be off unemployment.

The culture of trucking is close to that of your average teenager. Everyone else is supposed to be extra responsible, me, I'm just gonna do what I feel like and blame someone else anyway.
The original poster makes good points. I also see similar thing with drivers trying to live off the bosses advance, and often having to beg for more money. That's exactly like a dopey teenager asking dad for money. Pay your bills on time, get a credit card for expenses and pay off those expenses every month. Spend what you need and make sure it's always less than you earn.
You haven't been poorer than me and you haven't earned less than me. I was poor once and that was enough for me. If you spend your money like a poor person you will always be poor. Poor people also blame others rather than accept responsibility. But who is kidding who. Many drivers can't even be bothered to look for speed limit signs, they just go with the flow. They pass 2 or 3 speed limit signs and still maintain the speed limit from a few miles back until some unlucky ####### tries to pass them, then they are all about speeding up.grimesjm1 and WhattheTruck??? Thank you Trilleth and Sequoia, well said. When I first started trucking I had good credit, was buying a nice home and making payments on a new car. The first company I drove for tried starving me out but I stuck with it and after 6 months another company agreed to hire me. By then I was completely broke. I hid a couple boxes of instant baby cereal in my bag to eat in my room during orientation and yes I took small cash advances for meals once I got put in a truck.
Trilleth Thanks this. -
