Howdy Molliee!
Welcome to the forums.
I hope you'll do some exploring here to discover all
that's available in the form of casual readin', research, and most
of all, havin' fun.
The situation that you've pointed out is a message that many who have experienced the C.R.E. (mis)adventure have related. There are those who think that the powers that be C.R.E. are clueless when it comes to runnin' a Big truck truckin' company and wonder how they manage to stay in business considerin' how shabbily they treat their drivers.
I think they're incorrect.
There's no doubt in my mind that the powers that be C.R.E. do know how to run a profitable business in spite of what is being reported. The reports of less than desirable conditions begin with the lodging facilities C.R.E. provides for trainees upon their arrival, --- dirty with an aroma of sweaty gym socks. An oversight by C.R.E.? Or a hint of of what's in store?
It's been said that one never gets a second chance to make a first impression. First impressions, therefore, are considered to be important enough for one to put their best foot forward in an effort to make a positive first impression. If anything, a first impression effort paints a company in a better light than actually exists to encourage a potential employee.
Beyond the business aspect, there's something called "respect".
It's not unusual for good folks to provide guests with more comfort than they provide for themselves as a way to display that they're honored and pleased to be able to accommodate their guest(s). To invite someone to be a guest, and upon their arrival they're led to an old storage shed with a well used mattress on the floor wrapped in dirty sheets that match the towels hanging on a nail pounded into the dingy wall, is making a statement. Then, after informing the guest(s) of the location of the outhouse, pointing out which dirt path leads to those facilities, and offering to allow them to use the host's shower facilities in the main house, (well kept and clean), but only occasionally, --- if absolutely necessary, --- for the duration of their several weeks visit, ..... is making yet another statement, --- knowingly or unknowingly.
Encouraging a guest to join in on the daily activities, and when they do, they're met with ridicule, contempt, name calling and yelled insults, --- then ending with another invitation to do it again the next day, isn't what most of us would consider polite, respectful, caring or concerned. More like just being tolerated, and resented for causing them to be inconvenienced.
They won't come right out and tell a guest that they feel that way though. After all, that would be impolite, ..... and rude behavior. So, to avoid that, they put on an act that they've perfected over the years in attempts to conceal reality for awhile,........ without taking into consideration that actions speak louder than words. When words don't match actions, by golly, ....... Hooston, ...... we perceive a high probability that there exists an above average potential that the (mis)adventure will terminate with an overwhelming feelin' of regret for the potential employee who believed the printed advertisements for drivers wanted --- will train, ..... and/or the description of what's in store for those who sign on, as presented by recruiters who have everything to gain through misrepresentation of reality.
Time to sit down and make up one's mind, --- which to believe.
That's when good instincts are worth their weight in diesel fuel, ..... and one has the instinct to rely on what their better instinct(s) are tellin' 'em.
Messages come in many forms, some are obvious, others can be subliminal, --- and therefor not so obvious. Often subliminal messages can be taken more than one way. It's not uncommon for a guest to give their host the benefit of doubt by assuming such comments and actions were well intended, just not presented well. So they ignore their better instincts.
Big mistake, as they will come to realize, ....... later. Unfortunately, "later" (too) often comes when it's too late. Any doubts that remain, are eliminated when they find themselves bein' unceremoniously thrown under the bus, and ordered to go away.
When a well-intended host is informed, or otherwise comes to realize, that their actions are detrimental and offensive to their guest(s), a normal first reaction would be regret, and a desire to change things for the better, --- out of respect for others.
To know the effects of one's actions send a message, and that message isn't favorable, but one makes no effort to rectify the message to more accurately convey the message(s) intended, may just be the most sincere message possible. To know what treatment(s) is/are considered to be wrong, and allow such treatment to continue for years with no effort what-so-ever to make any changes for the better, pretty much says it all. That message, all-in-all, is that there's been no mistake made by the company. Whether that's just the way things progressed, or if in actuality, the conditions are what they are, not by accident, but intentionally planned to be that way.
In which case, I think it can be said that lack of action(s) speak louder than words.
Enter C.R. England, and their questionable business practices that have been goin' on for years, unchecked. I can only think of two reasons for that kind of treatment of others.
1. C.R. England flat doesn't care how their recruits are treated or the image of C.R.E. such treatment projects.
Or
2. C.R. England is following a carefully and well thought out plan devised to reach and even exceed their ultimate goal which, as with most all businesses, is their bottom line which reflects their profit.
Is success measured by the size of the bottom line, achieved at the expense of the employees who provide customers with the service(s) as promised by the powers that be the Sons of Chester?
Some folks wonder how C.R.E. manages to stay in business doin' unto others the way they do.
I wonder what I'd think, what I'd do, and how I'd react, if my first impression upon arrival for training and/or orientation was to be formed after bein' ushered to an unclean dormitory that smelled foul, --- that I'd be sharing with several other recruits about to experience the C.R.E. (mis)adventure along with me?
Would I stand up and walk out on C.R.E.?
Or would I bend over ------ and pretend to believe what I'm experiencing is normal and the pain doesn't hurt?
When I read the various different stories that all reveal the same thing(s) about C.R.E., and a person feels badly that they weren't treated fairly, and instead, booted out early without bein' given a chance to prove themselves to be capable of performing their duties satisfactorily, I wonder if they realize how close they came to a career ending disaster as a result of C.R. England's fondness for exaggerating and/or falsifying information on DAC reports, --- that's if C.R.E. happens to be in a good mood, or doesn't feel like taking the time, at that time, to fill out the required paperwork necessary to submit a poison apple.
I find it very hard to believe that the Sons of Chester aren't aware of what transpires under their watch. I also find it hard to believe that the Sons of Chester are not aware of their company's bad reputation within the Big truck truckin' industry.
What I do believe is that the Sons of Chester are aware of those things, and probably much more.
Which leads me to believe that the Sons of Chester either don't care, or things are goin' according to plan(s).
It's all good.
They're turnin' a profit.
What else could possibly matter? :smt102

Boy, there are a lot of subjects in this forum I never agree on..But the above quote hits that proverbial nail right on the head...CRE and The Mormon Mafia know EXACTLY what they are doing. I too believe that their longstanding methods of abuse and deceit are carefully honed over time and refined down to the last degree. They attempt to break down and demoralize new people in the business, just because "that's trucking"....Uh, I hate to differ with you Chester, but NO it is not.AfterShock and mgt1085 Thank this.

I won't bother to repeat CRE experiences that mirror most all I have read so here is something new. During my Phase I training my "trainer" waited for me to fuel and while fueling went inside requested a cash advance and promptly stole 100 dollars from my payroll, not once but twice.
After my wife caught this using their own website I gave him the choice of hitting an ATM and repaying me or me going to jail for assault and battery. He chose the ATM.
He still trains for CRE. Now for those defenders of this piece of crap company, explain how a thief that commits fraud ( he had to sign my name) still works for them.
I am one of those that refused to lease as well. They sent me home. Bought my bus ticket, knew exactly where I was. Then left me there to rot for 30 days. At which time I was informed I no longer worked for them, but still owed them money of course.
Long story short, they offered me my job back IF I agreed to lease. If I loose my home due to inability to pay my mortgage between the time they shafted me and getting a real trucking job it will be on their hands.
This outfit is a total loss for any sane human being to attempt to work for.
By the way, no matter what the defenders say, I am ..hard working and on time and safe, I have a terrific safety record and am working for a small highly reputable company. So my skills and attitude had nothing to do with them letting me go.
They tried to put "failed to show for work" on my DAC as well until a high priced attorney convinced them otherwise.
Stay as far away as you can, they take as much money as they can, give inexperienced trainers the chance to screw with your head OR rape you, we had 5 women claim rape during my short time around Burns Harbor. Nothing anyone can post relating how god awful this outfit is can come close to the truth, unless you lived it.
And yes, any place that requires armed security guards and metal detectors should give any thinking person pause.AfterShock and 48Packard Thank this. -
