Hey K4EMP, I a licensed ham operator looking to get into trucking. I trying to decide with which company I want to take paid training with. I'm limited on funds so I can't come out of pocket. Right now I'm leaning towards swift. after i finish with the mentor and go solo is it possible to put a 2 meter mobile in the truck? Do you know of any other drivers that have 2M in the truck?
Thanks,
Keith KF5CTE -
Of course you can have a 2-meter in the truck. You can have an HF rig in the truck too. No laws at all against it. Just be sure to have a copy of your license with you.

An HF rig would be nice once I get my general, the only thing I can't really figure out though would be using an antenna tuner while driving since thats the only way I can see having one antenna and an hf rig in the truck.
-
I guess an auto tuner would work though now that I think about it.

If you do not have an HF radio you could get the YAESU
FT-857D and the active tunning antenna for it. I have a couple of friends that have this and really like it. Besides HF it also does 2 and 6 meters and 440. -
One thing I would NOT recommend this morning - Making contact with a ham operator in Japan and ask him; "What's shakin'."

Yeah, I know that is bad. I'll go back to my local 2 meter now.
73Hardlyevr Thanks this. -
Thats bad. Funny but bad!!! LOL!!!!

What I would try to do is go to a state tech collage that offers truck driver training. The cost would be alot less and you would not be tied down to one company for a long time as in years! good luck with your new career.
