    I live in Ontario, now that I have my ACZ license, I am thinking maybe I can look into busing too. I am just wondering, what kind of wages/benefits/hours am I going to be looking at working for Greyhound and Coach?

    Also, how do they treat people, what kinds of runs do I do, are they unionized? :biggrin_25511:

    From what i understand greyhound wants you to have a B licence as well.

    Did some looking, it appears they want you to have had your G licence for 5 years and able to get your B. Interesting. Looking for drivers all over may have to send an app in since they list here as needing people. :)

    Its odd that they are looking for people when they have been cancelling runs from Toronto to most points north except Sudbury. The B licence is required because they do Charters for Schools and for that A 'B' licence is required as is the Police check. A few friends of mine worked for Bus Companies, Ontario Northland, they made good money but Greyhound would probably not pay as well, it would also depend on experience. I am also not sure if Greyhound is unionized or not.

    I work for "the hound" in the USA but for the most part is the same in Canada as it is in the USA. When I worked out of Detroit I knew a few Canadian drivers who lived in Windsor and Toronto. They all seemed liked good guys. I think their run was Windsor to Toronto - Toronto to Windsor - Windsor to Detroit - Detroit back to Windsor or something like that. I'm pretty sure there were other runs going up to Northern and Western Ontario.

    *It is a union job. Amalgamated Transit Union, same union for both countries. Pretty hard to get fired from ;)

    *You are going to need a passport. They have runs that go to Buffalo, NY and Detroit, MI. If you are unable to enter the USA I don't think you will be hired.

    *Canadian drivers are paid by the mile. I don't know how much but I hear when it's all said and done they make more than US drivers who are paid hourly at the top rate of about USD $22.50 per hour. So that should gve you a range of pay. Ofcourse you won't start at top pay.

    *More than likely you will start off on the extraboard and will not have regular for awhile. Hours will vary form week to week. You might have to deadhead buses to another city. Drive a rescue bus out to somewhere where a bus broke down. Drive a 2nd section on a schedule if it is oversold and needs another bus. Drive regular runs for drivers on vaction or called in sick etc etc. Sometimes you will be working your butt off and other times it will be slow. Depending on what city you are working out of and if they are short any drivers.

    *Most runs will have you away from home for 1 night and come back the next day. But then again some runs you be home everynight. When you layover away from home they put you in a decent hotel like a Holiday Inn or Comfort Inn.

    Best thing to do is just go to the station and talk to a driver. I'm pretty sure most will be happy to answer any of your questions.

    You have to know the axle weight because you will be fined for being over. So you have to do the math and total up the passenger weight to see who can sit up front, middle or the back of the bus. Axel weight is important if you don't want to pay a big fine. Hope this helps.

    Hello jakebean, the math test was basic math. I found it funny that half the people were looking over the shoulder of the person sitting next to them trying to cheat.

    I'll give you an example;
    1 - A bus has 37 passengers on it and 5 get off at the first stop and picks up 14. At the second stop 22 passengers get off and 11 new passengers board the coach. How many passengers are on the bus?

    You do not need to know trigonomenty or calculus. Good luck buddy.

    Also check "no" of the question that ask if you like skydivkng!

    Oh, I thought the question might have been "How many times did the bus stop?" [IMG]
