I know I posted this om the other thread--and waited a while to do it to see others reaction--but what Iron Pony said is dead on--I KNOW THAT STRETCH OF HIGHWAY ALL TOO WELL--and especially at that particular point--a heavy merge area with a tight off-camber S-curve--just before a 3 way split--has been a disaster zone for years--no excuse no reason--especially for a local who knows it all to well also--
As for buses--as others stated here you would think they would require even more stringent guidelines and qualifications--unfortunately--I find it quite the opposite--especially in the Metro areas of the NE--you can routinely find ads for the bus companies in eastern pa--advertising for drivers--to run regular routes in NYC--4-5trips a day with $12 an hour starting pay--and they wonder why they can't get drivers!
Another question about Wang-##(or whatever)I know think I know the buses you are referring to (Blue and White with chinese writing?) is this also part of the bunch that runs the White 15 passanger vans up and down 95 thru Ct?(also some kinda chinese writing all over) I've seen these stop @the rest plaza's in CT--and it looks like circus clowns--people just keep getting out! Seems like they need a bus--but just pack as many in a van! Scary stuff---
Also ceck out other post about whta is happening with buses--another link to 2 more fatals one in NJ tonite and one in TX--and another bus on jersy tpke fri nite--drive had blood level over 2--
Like I told friends a while back who wanted us to go on a Casino excursion to Atlantic City recently--I asked how y'all going down there--they said we are all chartering a bus--you wanna go--I replied "It's gonna take federal marshall's(and a lot of them) and arrest warrant and automatic weapons to get on me one of those ##########!!"

well what has my curiosity up is even if it werent the truckers fault..even if he didnt hit the buss...
the trucker sure must have seen the wreck...right...
WHY DID HE NOT STOP TO RENDER AID CALL 911
why just keep on driving...jeddomike Thanks this. -
I cannot agree with all of this. It never ceases to amaze me what lengths some will go to to justify breaking the law. If someone is going the posted limit and everyone else is speeding, then the speeders are the hazard. It is their responsibility to keep from running over someone who is doing it right. Typically the speeders are also weaving between lanes, most often without signaling. They are not looking past the bumper of the car vehicle in front of them. They are too busy texting to pay attention to something as simple as driving. Oh and I have been passed in that area by many more trucks speeding than I have buses. You really should have included them too.
But the person who is trying to be a good citizen and obey traffic laws is, in your eyes, the hazard?
There is no such thing as a law abiding citizen anymore. EVERYONE breaks some law at some time, especially traffic laws. But there are those of us who actually try to not break those traffic laws. It gets harder every day to keep track of them. I can't count the number of times I get cussed on the CB for going the limit or slower in construction zones. This is by other "professional drivers".
We get blame thrown in us because someone else is in too big of a hurry.IROCUBabe Thanks this. -
not really.... ever just be driving along, with traffic, all around you, then u look in the mirrior and see noooooo cars trucks people anywhere?
maybe that trucker was having to keep left and kept his eye on his driver side mirrior, rather then much need to look in the right one...
it was night time when this happened, maybe the trucker noticed the buss " missing " from view, but figured he had taken an exit?
who knows...
im sure at some point we will hear what he had to say about this wreck. -
From what I understand from reports on FNC. There was no truck beside the bus. The truck that "sideswiped the bus" was a figment of the bus drivers imagination. Or maybe he was dreaming about it. There was a truck behind the bus and he was a witness. He reported the bus was swerving as did other witnesses.
I just can't understand this bus driver being so stupid as to lie to cops about a truck hitting him. Maybe he thought he could get away with it at 6 AM since we all know that there is no traffic on I-95 in NYC at that hour...Right?? LOL Anybody wanna buy a bridge?Rerun8963 Thanks this. -
NTMD8OR--I agree with you for the most part--and since it looks like we have both been around the block a time or two--I'm guessing we are on the same wavelength--anyone trying to say it's ok to do (whatever)by saying everyone else is doing it is BS--as for the professional part--Pardon me but I've almost given up--if I had a dollar for everytime I have said to another driver--especially one #####en about for wheelers that "If you are the professional you profess to be--that makes the 4 wheeler an amateur--and pros make allowances for amateurs" At which point they either look at me like I have two heads--or do the standard rambo mouth running--
Anyway--IMHO form my earlier post--that is one of the areas you really need to watch--I'm not saying I run 50 thru there--but I AM SAYING--that the majority of traffic(all traffic)when it isn't all jammed up runs WY TOO hard thru there--
And yes in case you are wondering--I do have a customer or two--I fit in in Westchester+Rye--that I gotta get to b4 market--and have blown thru there at 3AM--like a chicken hauler with his pants on fire--b4 I piss my boys off @the Point--so your point is well takin!
Not sure why i felt the need to say all this--but anyway--have a good'nIROCUBabe Thanks this. -
recently i had read, (maybe i just read it recently and it wasnt recent...lol ) but wasnt there a double decker bus back east that hit a low bridge and killed people on the top level???

In that stretch??? The ONE New Yorker doing 50 as you cross the CT line into NY through the area down to the exit for Throgs Neck is setting up a serious hazard for a rear-end accident. I don't justify this or even think that its right - but the volume of traffic through there, the speeds that people travel at mean that if you're going as slow as the speed limit suggests, you are a hazard. Its obvious - at the time of day that bus was going through there, he was doing warp 9 and falling asleep. The "truck that clipped him" is just an excuse.
That being said, I'd rather take 287 across the Tappan Zee than do the CBE to the GWB. Less traffic, more road - and keeping a speed near or under the limit isn't endangering everyone on the road. That mitigates the risk that you take on 95 through there - either setting yourself up as a hazard, or going too fast on a very heavily travelled highway. -

Yes--happened outside of syracuse I think--another horrible deal--check the linkGiggles the Original Thanks this. -
Don't want to tell you what to do or how to drive--BUT--not everyone in that area is going around NYC as you suggest--besides--if you are going around then please go how you are comfortable--as for me and my truck--I aint running an extra 30 miles and paying $25 dollar TRUCK ONLY TOLL on 287/87 north--when 95 southbound is FREE and in no worse shape than 287....
As for this idea of being a road hazard running the speed limits--Sorry--but that is TOTAL BS--by your reckoning--every company governed truck would have a 4wheeler stuck under it all over the country--since on average most drivers are 10+mph over the limit where ever they go--therefore 65mph company truck+70mph car speed limit West Coast=total carnage--but it just isn't so-
