I've heard rumours tested and true that connecting two point in the serial port will disable the data link from the engine to the computer, leaving the engine idling for massive amount of time leaving the gauges dismantled, And an annoying buzzing sound if done while the truck runnning. I've also done this while driving leaving you with nothing gained.
Type of truck done on, was a 01 Frieghtliner from SNI fleet
Has anyone tryed this on Volvo's or International?

Assuming that you do manage to get the gauges shut down and can idle to your hearts content, how do you explain the fuel use compared to the miles you drove the truck? Seems that if you idle a bunch of time, it's gonna show in your fuel mileage. And, it's going to show on the engines ECM henever they do a download at a maintenance interval.
-
Why would anyone want to do this? Is idling so important that you put it above your job? Not to mention the safety hazard you would be in if you're driving down the road. It just doesn't make sense to me unless it's for someone that has such a bad record to start with it wouldn't matter.

To me that is almost like a guy stealing or selling their companies fuel. Whether it works or not, your computer will show the irregalarities somewhere, and like the other person said, how are you gonna explain the extra fuel, maybe you will be fired for stealing that fuel,if it don't show, how else would you prove where the extra fuel went. If you have to think of stealing, please, find another job or get out of the trucking industry,we need good honest folks, not duds like you know who. Sorry if I"m a little harsh but really I do truly hate thieves, you don't want me to catch you stealing. That reminds me,have you folks ever seen drivers and their passengers stealing in truckstops,i watched a young girl about 20 in a pilot today,i came out of the restroom and she had a blue flat looking vinyl shopping bag that wasn't for sale at the pilot, she was picking up cigarette lighters looking at them, was a bit odd,all the same but different colors,I got into the next isle and listened and sure enough, she was loading lighters in that bag,I could hear them hitting each other thru the big top opening, then i wanted to believe it and walked quickly aroung that corner and her hand was in motion and click again,I went to the register and was going to tell the cashier, but just then she walked up behind me with just one lighter to pay for,i changed my mind about telling on her because i see this happening almost everyday out at truckstops, nobody is watching these thieves,I can't believe it,the costs still is paid by us somewhere, then if they hired security like i have done in between trucking,it would cost more. You can sit in your truck near the entrance and see the same people go in,and come back out with a bag of goods,I watched a guy, won't say the nationality, doesn't really matter,go in a pilot in wi and come out three times twice with an old wrinkled looking used bag and the last time with a vinyl or leather accessory bag,why three trips,I didn't investigate, too tired. It is weird, once you work security you still are looking and it becomes a test to you to watch and catch them, sometimes I wish I hadn't worked security,it never leaves you and you still care, but nobody else seems to,strange how that is.

thanks for the criticism

Your welcome, but I'm almost sure after a little thought, you would not babtage someone elses equipment to satisfy your desires. If in fact it is a serious problem, just change jobs and drive anothers' truck. Have a great week out there.

I know several people that have gotten fired for this kind of crap. They also had to pay back the fuel bonus they got from the time that they started messing with the computer until they got caught. Otherwise the company was going to charge them with felony theft. You can also bet that it went on there DAC so they can forget about getting another driving job. Unless they can find someone out there that doesn't use DAC. Although the ones that don't use DAC will find out anyhow when they run the background check. Its a no win situation my best advice is leave the computers alone.

Why do you care to idle so much? Is it that big of deal to shut off truck when running it is not required?
Why risk shorting out the wrong prongs and frying the ECM?
If this was done to my truck, you would end driving a set of LPC's to your next interview.
