Hey I need help. I have an 06 w900l with a c15 acert 625 3:36 rear ends 2050 tq 18 spd. I bought the truck 2 months ago and was getting 4.00-4.7 mpg pulling benson 524 48'10" spread flatbed with roll-tire curtain system. Was not happy with mpg. I changed out OEM mufflers for Donaldson m120750's. Mpg stayed the same. Took truck to cat and ran overhead and let them know of my issues. They checked fuel pressures and found I had 82psi. We changed check valve and transfer pump. That got me to 102psi. Nothing else showed up on the computer. Mpg was 3.7 first tank, 4.35 second, and 4.16 mpg third tank. I am shifting at 1300 rpm, setting cruise at 65 mph which is 1300 rpm. Pulling small hills in 18th gear I am building 40-50# of boost. I am 285wb aerocab flat top 7 inch exhaust lp24.5 tires. No one can tell me what's wrong as to why I am getting such poor fuel economy.....HELP before I go broke.

Conestoga trailers pull like parachutes anyway and having a flattop doesnt help with wind resistance. Try setting the cruise on 60 and see what happens.

You're driving a dinosaur. Put your ego, pride or whatever aside start acting like a business person and buy an aerodynamic tractor...or starve.

Ask for Mr Haney over in the garage section. I've read lots of posts where he reflashes ECM to help with MPG as long as you keep your foot out of it.There is tons of info in the garage section, you will get plenty of input there.

First off early Accerts suck!
Come to think of it IMHO all accerts suck--having said that--there is something wrong--I have 5-6 friends with newer cat's and they all sucked at first--but most got them straightened out--Although it is much harder now--as CAt corporate is watching everything their dealer techs do--all of their comps(are supposed to be hard wired to Peoria now)so a lot of the EPA choke stuff can't be bypassed as easily
May I suggest you find a good cat shop--so as not to start an argument PM me and I will give you my opinion on this--and my personal dealings with a couple--
As for what you are doing--you may need to experiment with cruising RPMs--1300 may be slightly below your sweet spot--everyone is different--as tall as you are geared--you may find that sweet spot slightly higher--Also--Personally I have always gotten better over MPG--sing the cruise much less
and yes you could probably do better (with a lot of variables)with a more aero truck--BUT many of us w/long hood no area--are doing fine
and unfortunately as my Grandad used to say--sometimes you get a Wed afternoon motor and sometimes you get a Monday morning!
Either way good luck!

Yes there are absolutely some very fine aftermarket solutions out there--but IMHO you do better to get things as good as possible in terms of mfg set-up first and then proceed from there...

A typical moronic response!
There are plenty of us that get great fuel mileage from a "hood"....I'm certainly not starving...I average between 6.5 and 7.5 and have gotten as much as 8 when conditions and load are just right.
You want to drive a droopy hood? Cool! I don't care for the way they look and I get better fuel mileage than most guys that have them so why would I want to change?
The ACCERT Cat on the other hand is probably a lot more to blame for the fuel mileage problem than the shape of the truck. Cats are not known for their great fuel milage anyway and the ACCERT is one of the worst that they ever built.
I gave up on Cats more than 10 years ago. -
Of course you'd see it as a moronic response, it was directed toward the morons out there that think a 'big truck' is more cost efficient than an areo hood. I don't care how you work it, in the real world an aerodynamic truck is going to be more cost efficient when it comes to cost per mile.

His problem is the flat top+conestoga+EPA programming, not the hood. I know that's not what you want to believe but those external air cleaners are not costing him 2+mpg don't be a #######.

Get ahold of Mr.Haney & get the truck reflashed. A nose cone on the trailer gained us about .5mpg with our conestogas, the better ECM program will help more.
We pull conestogas with all W900L daycabs with nothing but Cat's. -
Check the CAC and the air filerrs.
