    Looks like the Verizon 4G system is only in the large cities at this time. It reverts back to the 3G system anytime the 4G isn't working. Verizon says '4G will be rolled out by end of 2013,,,ok 2 years from now it will be Nationwide. Superfast, so they say. 10x faster than 3G.

    I see they have 2 usb modems that will plug into laptop. Only Pantech has the ext. antenna, tho.
    Anyone have this Pantech UML290 hooked to their laptop? I am looking at that modem, since it has an ext. antenna that will hook up to the Wilson Antenna, which I suppose will be a boost for it. I will need this adapter;

    Here is a link for the Wilson adapter: http://www.wpsantennas.com/WA-1071-Pantech-UML290-4G-Antenna-Adapter-Cable.aspx

    Those people have an adapter for everything that is made, it appears. :biggrin_25514:

    I gotta have a laptop; not into the Smartphone stuff. Old school,,,hehe. :biggrin_2559:

    Ok, Verizon,,,get your 5 gb price down from current $50 to say,,,,$20.

    Does anyone have the verizon 4G and how does it work. I hear it cuts out all the time unless you are close to a big city

    I was able to get my hands on an HTC Thunderbolt at a VZW store tonight.. It was blazing fast but I didn't get a ton of time with it. Currently down in the L.A. area so their 4G is pretty solid here I would think. I might actually go pick one up tomorrow, and will you all know how it works.

    That would be true. Verizon hasn't completed their 4G roll out yet. They are OK in many of the larger cities. When away from the big cities it reverts back to 3G.

    The Mhz frequency that verizon has chosen for its 4g is a higher frequency which could be interfered with by things such as the tv and microwave. Also with the higher frequency (verizon) penitration of buildings is not what it could be. Meaning, you go inside a house or building... your SOL.

    The 700 Mhz spectrum is pretty much saturated. The higher freq. spectrum is pretty much the only thing left for expansion.

    Well, just to follow up, I did go back the day after and picked up the Thunderbolt. I must say that I love this phone. Got some good time to play with 4G while there and I was seeing speeds of upwards to 20 mbs download, and even better, with the radio that is built into the Thunderbolt, you can actually use 3G data while on the phone which was not possible before on Verizon's CDMA network.

    I've been running the Pantech 290 for 3 months...
    It does cut out from time to time...
    Been dealing with Verizon about the problem..
    When in a fringe 4G area it searches for that service, but disconnects trying to revert back to 3G...They are waiting for the software upgrade to fix this problem...
    If you are in a 3g area, you can get into VZ Manager and turn off the 4G.
    This seems to help alot...

    I just bought the Verizon 4g LTE Samsung LC11 hotspot today, I am currently on the outskirts of San Antonio, TX for the night and it is using mainly 3g (TA east side), but will grab 4g every once in a while and disconnect me often. When it hits 4g it has no data, I think this is just because of my location on the outskirts of town. Will test more, right now I am irritated at the device. One thing is you can have it plugged into the usb and let it charge and surf the net, the other new 4g hotspot (novatel mifi) doesnt allow data while charging wtf!
