During the week when fuel and permits is there, we would mac 17 followed by a request to fuel and permits to change the routing due to whatever reason. That T2000 we had was always pushing gross, so we 1/2 tank fueled a lot. We would trip plan, learned the truck well enough to know what fuel mileage it would average, and if we were heading west on 70 and they wanted us to stop at the pilot at the 49 in MO, we would usually send another message asking to allow the TA or Petro at the 27 instead because of weight issues vs. scale location, especially since the cost is usually close. They (especially Linda) knew we put a lot of thought into where and how we would go, so fuel and permits usually just did what we needed to.
On the weekends and at nights all macros except OTRM can be/usually are answered by night/weekend dispatch. That said, most of them didn't know how to change parameters in the routing to do what we needed to do. After beating our head against a wall far too many times, my hubby pulled into a pilot he needed to fuel at that was not on the routing because we had to run at 1/2 tank and the dummies didn't know how to change it. Low and behold the card worked. We tried no matter what to follow their routing but if we were going to be overweight (which was most of the time), we would do what we could, send a 17 and a 1 on nights/weekends saying the change we needed. When we got the same crud or even more nonsensicle crud back, we would just do what we needed, and send a 1 saying this is what we did and why. Remember, they can pull those macs if you need them to show what you were doing and why.
As far as OTRM, we went round and round for hours because they wanted us to try to run warm water through a T fitting that was broken on the wiper system on that T2. They weren't comprehending that water isn't going to change a broken piece of plastic. It took us about 500 miles to find a place that had that fitting or something that could work. It was no fun until then.after that incident we had an issue with the reefer where they weren't comprehending what we were saying. Keep in mind I am not a dummy mechanically, and neither is my husband. There were/are many things we fix and say nothing to them, so when it just needs a repair shop we say what we have done, what needs to be done and request the code for the closest TK dealer. If we can't get that after about 3 messages we cease all communications and call. I swear at least a few in the shop know if our truck number comes up as needing whatever it is because we have done all we can and they just need to aqueous to our request.
I am by no means saying someone fresh out of orientation can skip all the crud we went through to get to the ending point, but I am saying if you are getting no cooperation on fueling, go to a pilot, fuel, and send in what you did and why. They can see you tried to make reasonable requests and were getting nowhere, so you did what you needed to get the load there on time. And with OTRM, it does take them knowing that you are going to jump the trailer, clear codes, try TK tricks and only then are you going to request service (for example if you have a low voltge code) before you will get to the this is what's wrong this is where we are going point. I just hated asking them where to go because by the time our slow as crud qualcomm would get the message top them and back to us we could be 50 miles down the road, so if we can roll, we look up where we are going to stop at and inform them of where that will be instead of playing the where do you want us to go game.

I have the 3g card...... I have only found 2 places that I can not get any signal (so far) but the signal I do get, even in places like Henderson, Ft. Worth and other big cities has never been above 3 out of 4 bars on the meter.... most of the time is bounces between 2 and 3.
