My experience with Swift has been the worst than can ever be imagined.
They started out by telling me I would make .26cpm for 1 month and then go up to .34cpm. Then they put me with a trainer for 6 weeks that was an owner operator. I didn't drive for the first week and then I never did any city driving, backing, log book, qualcom, trip planning, hooking or PTI.
My trainers Hygene was so bad I almost threw up on more than one occation. The trainer spent more time fighting with his wife on the phone and then taking it out on me that I was scared to do or say anything. I just kept my mouth shut most of the time. When I got off the trainers truck I asked my driver manager if I could go out with another trainer for 2 weeks that I did not feel ready to go out on my own and he said NO! He said I will do just fine. Well, guess what, I didn't do fine. In Gary Indiana on 4/24/07 one week after I was out on my own a small red car was following me like a diaper. I was going to change lanes when all of a sudden he darted out from behind me. My trailer caught him and run him off the road. The police officer stated that it was not my fault. Swift continued to allow me to drive 48 states for them for the next 3 months and then they decided that the accident was preventable and they fired me. Now they have put this on my DAC and now the other trucking companies won't hire me. I am just one of many that I have read that Swift has recked a carrier for. At this point in my life I am 52, raised 2 children by my self. Put my children threw Michigan State University, Earned an associates degree myself, with no help from anyone. And now after doing everything I could and was told to do by Swift, they are doing this to me and my family. If anyone out there is thinking of going into the trucking industry, Do your self a favor and don't go with swift. They will stab you in the back. Read all the articles on the internet about them and you will see that I'm not the only one. I'm at a loss and not sure what I am going to do. I want to drive truck but now Swift has made it so I can't get a job.

"They started out by telling me I would make .26cpm for 1 month and then go up to .34cpm."

Ok now I am going to assume that you went in to a terminal and saw the pay chart that they have that has the pay rate. Now assuming you did where in that pay scale does it say after 1 month that you go to .34CPM.
Now maybe the terminal did not have one that you where at. The Informers have the pay scale. Now maybe you did not use the informers? You surely looked on the internet and saw the pay scale. Did you ask the person that told you that why he (she) is saying something different What the pay scale in the terminals, informer, internet says.

"Then they put me with a trainer for 6 weeks that was an owner operator. I didn't drive for the first week and then I never did any city driving, backing, log book, qualcom, trip planning, hooking or PTI."

That I can believe we have Mentors that should not be training dogs let alone students.

"My trailer caught him and run him off the road. The police officer stated that it was not my fault."

Now you have the police report where the Officer stated that it was not your fault. so when you go to another company and show them where it say not your fault. Now granted they might not even what to hire you because of what your dac says but at lest it shows your side of the story that it was not your fault.

But what i don’t understand is someone that raised 2 children by your self which is hard I know I did it after my wife died and I was in the army. Also you received your AA with no help from anyone. You let your DM walk all over you and say NO your ready for being solo knowing you was not ready. You did not even go over his head and talk to fleet manger or terminal manager.

Don't think you have a monopoly on being buzz-sawn by Swift. No way. I used to work for that sorry outfit, and I could use every letter in the alphabet to start a nightmare story about Good ol' JerryCo. And I was with those guys for only four months. Read my write up about Swifty in the company DAC reports here. It's nice juicy stuff for anyone thinking about Swift as an employer. All I have to say to anyone going to Swift is "You have been warned".

Sure, I bash Swift, but I will say this much--I fully intend to return to the Swift fold in the future. Yeap, you heard right, my friends. Someday I will be once again driving a Swift turtle wagon. This is because I promised my Swift dispatcher that I would on my way out the door for the last time.

I start the day after doomsday.

After the nuclear bombs rain down, after the asteroid hits, after the sun explodes, after the aliens arrive and destroy us all, there I'll be driving along in a Swift truck. Hey--I keep my promises.

The problem is I'll be driving for about three other companies that day, too, so it's gonna be hard to fit them all in. Especially when I have to be on opposite ends of the country on the same day.

Until that great gettin' up day, I'll be staying as far away from Swift as I can get.

I do have one question. When Swift was allowing you to run during that three-month period, did you have any other incidents? I know at Swift, when something like this happens to a driver, they will suspend him for later in-house DACcidents, late deliveries, and even freight shortages.

I don't know why they suddenly changed their minds about this incident you had with the car. They let you run for three months and then POOF. You're outta there. Is there anything else to this story? I'm at a loss as to why they'd wait three months before canning you. I can't help but think of the great Paul Harvey after reading posts like this, but don't take it personally.

Ok before anyone bashes me hold on a miniute.
We were not there but I will assume that we are not geting the whole story.

    My oppinion is

The first thing they tell you before and during the time that you get in the trucks at most schools is that you need to watch your mirrors all the time and even more when changing lanes I am also sure that you are also told many times to change lanes slowly so if you do see someone there you can steer the other way back to your lane to at least try to prevent those little accidents like that.

Are you sure that he was not already there and you were not watching your mirrors like you were suppose to be to see that he changed lanes?

He could of been in one your blind spots 4 wheelers are good for that.
Now had you been watching your mirrors like you were suppose to be this may have been preventable.

So as to the accident yes I belive that it may be preventable as most accidents are preventable remember that we are the professional driver not all the little 4 wheelers we need to watch out for them they will not allways watch for us some have a death wish.

I am sorry if this sounds a little harsh but as I stated toward the top that we were not there. The only ones there was you the driver of the little car and the person upstairs. We can only assume that the whole story was not told here.

Now I probaly would not right out fire a driver for the first accident depending on a few things drug screen, breathalizer being clean.

I would defentaly suspend the driver without pay while I was doing the investigation.

anyone can disagree with me if you would like. I am certianly not sticking up for swift.

I'm not agreeing you or anyone here. But I will say this. Sice I have been working with trucker and listening to their stories, I have been much more aware of the trucks on the road. I cannot believe how some of these car do not appreciate the size and mass of this rig. I see absolutely no respect for the trucker from these little cars that want to dart in and out of traffic like there is no tomorrow. I can see how that happened..

I'm the guy in the Green F-150 that will cut another car off as the truck in front of me puts on the turn signal to change lanes, only to have the car behind me try to pass around me and get infront of the truck as he's in the middle of changing lanes. Not on my watch.

Truckers have a hard enough job out there just taking care of compliance let alone other idiots on the road.

There is no doubt about it Swift sux. Long before I ever had a CDL I had heard the stories and was warned to stay away from the biggest loser company in the US.

That being said there are plenty of companies that do not hire from DAC. But they are smaller ones. Ones that you may not find in all the usual ways.
Try the phone book, ask friends, look in the newspaper, and stop and talk to the places you see around that look like they only have a few trucks.

I WOULD NOT GIVE UP HOPE JUST YET. When you fill out an ap you'll have to mention the mishap but attach a copy of the police report so that they know it wasn't your fault. It may take a bit of effort but you should still be able to get a job. Hopefully you'll find a small company that will appreciate you and not take advantage of their drivers. Some small companies are good, and some are not.

    Geez Mcgassey -

Looking at (some of) your 200+ posts, you appear to think you're an expert (or at least have an opinion you feel you should share) about driving, recruiting, training, dispatchers, human ethics, driver handling, mexicans, mirrors, shippers, receivers, hazmat, logs, insurance, lot lizzards, GPS, trailers, internet protocol, CDL tests, state job funding programs, power inverters, idleing, mountain driving (including speed and gear selection) c.b. ettiquite for gays, satellite radio, newspapers, tailgateing, who is (and is not) posting the truth, team driving, wheelchair occupants, railroad crossings, fires, cell phones, tickets, pre-paid legal, scale houses, etc. etc. --

and I only waded through about 1/3 of your posts.

Now remind us again how much experience you have - was it zero years, zero months, or zero weeks?

Not to be unkind, but why don't you come back in a year (if, on the off chance you make it that long) and tell us then how much you know?

Brickman - you have a talent for boilin' it down to the pure truth. ORELKLADY - LISTEN TO THIS MAN - he is young, but wise -- a very good combination.
