I've was introduced into trucking in 1967 by my Father and Uncle. I used to ride with them in their tractor on a wooden folding chair on the passenger side while they were doing their second job, "The Midnight Express" commonly known as "Moonlighting". I was 10 years old and helped to unload bakery racks and pickup dumped over rack pastries delivered to "Day Old" stores. I was given their wristwatch, which fell loosely around my small wrist, when they would stop for a 15 minute rest and time them to wake them up to continue their run. I was dropped off from the tractor upon our return and try to make it to school on time which was rare by 7:45 A.M. My Father and Uncle on these day's would then continue onto their daytime fulltime driving job delivering the LTL and come pick me up when their A.M. job was over to start the process again. I started my full time job in trucking in 1978 working the freight dock at "National Transit" in Dearborn,MI. National Transit was bought by "Holland Motor" in 1979 and I stayed with this company until the aqusition by Yellow Transport" and at this point resigned. I have during my career, worked the dock's, operated the switch tractor, CDL qualified with HAZ-MAT and driven city P&D and Over the Road. I've worked into management with USF Holland before I left and worked my way up to and including Terminal Manager with Vitran Express when we had our Canton,OH. facility.
